Job Overview

: This is a grant funded temporary full-time position with Sandhill Regional Library System.

The Digital Navigator acts as a community digital inclusion liaison, providing individualized or small group instruction and assistance regarding foundational digital skills, affordable home internet service, and internet capable devices. This position will provide digital literacy instruction and technical support to SRLS patrons looking to become effective home internet users. All outreach and assistance will be provided primarily by in-person instruction, but may also include phone calls, email, text, video chat, and other communication methods.

Responsibilities and Duties

– Travel to the fifteen SRLS library branch locations and to community sites to teach scheduled digital literacy classes to clients.

– Receive, return, or initiate telephone or email contact with clients identified by SRLS Library Staff and other community organizations.

– Offer virtual and in-person office hours during which clients can visit, telephone, Zoom, text, or email with questions or requests for assistance.
– Discuss with each client their home Internet access or need for home Internet access, technology experiences, and their devices.
– Assess their access to technology, current digital skill level pertaining to what they need to accomplish the plan, connectivity needs, and Internet use priorities, set agreed goals for the classes, and confirm the details with the client.
– Maintain accurate and timely grant and client records, track each clients progress, report outputs and outcomes as required, and perform other tasks as necessary.

Education, Experience, and Requirements

– High school diploma or equivalent; some college preferred.
– Excellent computer and technology skills.
– At least one year of relevant computer and/or teaching experience.
– Valid NC driver license and a good driving record.
– Must pass a criminal history background check.

Critical Skills and Aptitudes

Ability to embrace the challenge of learning and teaching basic technological concepts related to internet services, computer and device characteristics, and common online services and applications.
