JOB SUMMARY: The purpose of the Physical Therapist position is to provide services that help restore function, improve mobility, relieve pain and prevent physical disabilities of patients suffering from injuries and/or disease by administering a plan of care developed from an accurate evaluation and assessment of the patient’s complaints. Physical Therapists also help restore, maintain and promote overall health.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO, THE FOLLOWING:

Evaluates patients and designs treatment programs independently or with physicians and other medical personnel.

Determines patient’s needs by assessing impairments (i.e. posture, gait, strength, sensation, reflexes, range of motion, coordination, endurance, etc.) and their effect on function.

Administers treatment programs by educating patients and progressing them through a program of exercises, muscle re-education, manual techniques and gait training;

Therapists may also use such physical measures as heat, cold, hydrotherapy, massage, electrical therapy and taping.

Documents daily treatment and progress notes in the patient chart; bills patients according to established procedures.

Evaluates for need and if necessary fits and provides TEN/IFC units, traction units, lumbar supports, braces or other assistive devices.

Educates patient and family in proper care and use of various devices, self-care techniques and exercise programs.

Assists Physical Therapy Assistants in administration of the plan of care, progression of patient and re-evaluates PTA patients per department protocol.

Supervises both Physical Therapy Assistants and aides/techs in the course of patient treatment according to the rules set forth by the Texas Board of Physical Therapy

Examiners and the department.

Works with Director of Outpatient Therapy to develop treatment programs in area of specialty and carries out other duties as delegated by Director of Therapy Services.

Follows current professional best practices required to solve specific physical therapy problems and interprets patient response and progresses accordingly.

Maintains patient confidence and protects AOA operations by keeping information confidential.

Ensures the best care is given while balancing physician instructions and quality treatment.

Motivates patients to participate fully in their treatment.

Maintains safe and clean working environment and cares for physical therapy equipment.

Protects patients and employees by adhering to infections control policies and protocols.

Ensures timely and proper documentation and billing which can have a significant impact on patient care and reimbursement.

Strives to meet or exceed the Outpatient Therapy Department’s goals while adhering to the Department’s Mission, Vision and Values.

Complies with federal, state and local legal and professional requirements and keeps updated by studying existing and new legislation; enforce adherence to regulations and advises management on potential issues and needed actio

REQUIREMENTS

Licensed Physical Therapist in the State of Texas

Ability to perform frequent sitting, standing walking and occasional squatting, stooping, kneeling, crouching, climbing and crawling motions

Ability to occasionally lift 50 pounds or more with or without mechanical aids

Good verbal (talking and listening) and written communication skills

High level of organizational and time-management skills

Well groomed appearance and professional manner

Pleasant speaking voice and demeanor
