Responsibilities The cardiac surgery program at Garnet Health’s Peter Frommer, MD Heart Center at 707 East Main Street in Middletown is estimated to begin in the fourth quarter of 2022 and will be in affiliation with Columbia HeartSource. Garnet Health will also have a training arrangement with NewYork-Presbyterian to train nurses and surgical techs. Surgical leadership will be provided by Site Director Michael Argenziano, MD, Chief of Adult Cardiac Surgery at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia, under the guidance of Columbia HeartSource leaders Craig Smith, MD, Chair of Columbia’s Department of Surgery and surgeon-in-chief at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia, and Allan Schwartz, MD, Chief of NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia’s Division of Cardiology. “Development of a cardiac surgery program at Garnet Health is a huge advancement in heart care for the region,” said Scott Batulis, Garnet Health President & CEO. “In 2019 alone, 625 people had to travel out of Orange, Sullivan and southern Ulster counties for their cardiac surgery. Garnet Health’s cardiac surgery program will enable our community to receive top-notch cardiac care and still remain close to home, family and friends.” Over the next year, Garnet Health will develop the cardiac surgery program, which includes the renovation of almost 3,000 square feet of space on the first floor of the hospital to construct two cardiac surgery operating rooms and a Hybrid operating room in space that was preplanned during the original design of the hospital which opened in 2011. The hospital was the first in the county to offer a diagnostic cardiac catheterization lab and was the first to offer diagnostic, emergency and elective angioplasty to the community and surrounding area. The compensation range for the role is $52.82 – $58.72 hourly Garnet Health System provides a compensation range to comply with the New York State law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. Qualifications Licensure: Active New York State Nursing License in good standing Education: Associate, Baccalaureate (preferred), Master’s, or Doctorate Degree in Nursing from an Accredited School of Nursing. Certification: American Nurses Association endorsed Certifications or Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses Certification Preferred (Based on Certification specialty hours of work requirement). Physical Demands: Considerable standing, walking, reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching. Considerable visual demands. New Hires – Must be able to perform RN essential physical functioning demands as determined by Employee Health / Pre-Screening Assessment During any patient transferring task, if any caregiver is required to lift more than 35 lbs of a patients weight, then the patient should be considered to be fully dependent and assistive devices should be used. (Waters, T. [2007] Ergonomic stressors includes moderate to frequent heavy (lifting, positioning, pushing, and/ or transferring of patients). Must participate in Safe Patient Handling Initiatives. Must wear Personal Protective Equipment to ensure your safety which may include items such as gloves, safety glasses, respirators, or coveralls, vests, lead vests, and full body suits. May have contact with chemical, radiological, physical, electrical, mechanical, or other workplace hazards. Patient and Staff Safety: Recognizes the importance of patient/staff safety precautions as it relates to specific department and area of responsibility. Consistently utilizes precautions and follows appropriate procedure to enhance patient/staff safety in daily operations. Identifies and reports any potentially dangerous situations which could cause medical error and/or patient or staff harm. Immediately takes action, where appropriate, to minimize the risk of injury. Where appropriate to staff member’s responsibilities, reports errors, when these occur, to supervisor and in the MIDAS RDE system on an Incident report. Participates when appropriate in Root Cause Analysis and/or other efforts to reduce the risk of medical error and/or patient or staff harm. Training: Clinical nurses are accountable for completing their annual / required mandatory training within certain time frames All clinical nurses must have BLS and this training must be kept current. In certain clinical areas additional AHA training may be required. If you are transferring to one of these areas you must have the appropriate training prior to beginning the position. Department Required Experience Preferred Experience Recommended Training Mandatory Training CT ICU 1-year ICU experience and must demonstrate in competence in CRRT; hemodynamics and balloon pumps 3 years CT SDU will be considered. 2 or more years of CTICU/CICU experience. ACLS PALS required within 6 months TNCC within 1 year MERT Training within 6 months of hire or transfer CRRT Training within 1 year of hire or transfer Staff will be required to complete a CRRT Refresher every two years Workplace type On-site
