UPMC is excited to invite you to apply for the position of Phlebotomist! This full-time opportunity features Monday to Friday day shifts from 6:45 AM to 3:15 PM at our Fredonia lab site. For those seeking additional hours, holiday and weekend shifts are available on a voluntary basis. Responsibilities:

Engage with all laboratory customers courteously and professionally, ensuring timely responses to telephone inquiries.

Follow proper patient identification procedures to obtain blood specimens via venipuncture, heelstick, and fingerstick, while instructing patients on self-collection methods.

Exhibit reliability and independent judgment, prioritizing tasks to meet department needs and accepting authority as appropriate.

Perform specimen collection at off-site locations and transport specimens to the laboratory, adhering to established safety protocols.

Comply with laboratory and hospital policies related to procedures, quality control, safety, hand hygiene, and isolation precautions.

Execute clerical tasks accurately, including entering demographic information, managing test orders, and ensuring the adequacy of patient data and sample identity.

Train and orient new employees, students, and residents as assigned, ensuring they are familiar with laboratory procedures.

Inform technical staff and supervisors about any unusual or problematic incidents, ensuring prompt resolution and continuous improvement in processes.

Required:

High school diploma or equivalent

Preferred:

Certification from an accredited Phlebotomy or Medical Assistant program

Experience performing phlebotomy

Medical terminology knowledge and laboratory information system experience

Registration/Insurance experience

Medical setting experience

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

Phlebotomy Technician (PBT(ASCP)) or equivalent certification preferred.
