Responsibilities You will serve as a Secretary in the Electronic Warfare and Spectrum Operations Division (B30) of the Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division. You will screen calls and visitors to the office, referring to staff members and forwarding to the manager only those calls or visitors requiring his/her attention. You will schedule appointments and make commitments for the manager to attend meetings, presentations, etc. You will read incoming correspondence, including email, and determine proper action. You will review outgoing correspondence and reports, ensuring proper format, correct grammatical content, and compliance with established policy. You will maintain suspense records on all correspondence and action documents and follow up to ensure a timely reply or action. You will take minutes of staff meetings, coordinating information and preparing material to be discussed for attendees. You will provide guidance on new, revised, or amended procedures for such matters as preparation and processing of correspondence, engineering reports, and forms; records management; mail procedures; travel process requirements; and timekeeping. You will review timecards to ensure all employees have submitted time and timecard has been certified. You will arrange for meetings, including making reservations for meeting rooms and notifying all participants. You will use various electronic systems and databases to process various requests, including telephone requests, requisition of services and supplies, training requests, visit requests, property passes, shipping requests, and timekeeping approvals. You will instruct and assist the various secretaries in the division on processes and procedural matters. You will assist in implementing the supervisors intentions by explaining reporting requirements to subordinates and arranging for timely submission of required information. You will search for, assemble, and summarize information as required from files and documents as requested by the supervisor or in anticipation of the supervisors needs You will prioritize tasking while adhering to deadlines and suspense dates. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-5 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Applying an extensive knowledge of clerical support procedures to perform assignments in an office environment. This position requires the ability to type at least 40 words per minute. Education Additional Information This announcement uses the Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) Science and Technology Reinvention Laboratory (STRL) Direct Hire Authority for Mission Support to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to certain positions in the competitive service. This position is covered by the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program. Several vacancies may be filled.
