What you’ll do as a Fiber Splicer
Splice overhead, underground or submarine multiple conductor cables.
Climb utility poles, utilizes truck mounted lift-bucket, or descends into underground vaults.
Cut sheath from installed cable to gain access to defective cable connections.as well as cut and peel sheath and insulation from newly installed cable and conductors.
Test (traces or phase out) each conductor to identify corresponding conductors in adjoining cables, using test lamp or bell system.
Read and interpret (i.e. mechanical, electrical, digital) drawings, maps, blueprints diagrams, etc.
Ensure that all splicing operations are completed in accordance with customer and industry specifications.
Perform other splicing related duties as assigned.
What you’ll need
To be 18 years of age or older
Authorization to work in the United States for this company
One or more years experience as a fiber splicer with experience on outside plant or system installations while working from blueprints, specifications, and system documentation.
A valid standard Drivers License or Class A Commercial Drivers License.
To be able to pass a DOT physical exam, resulting in a valid medical card.
One or more years experience splicing copper and coax.
Physical abilities & exposures
Duties outlined in this position will require the employee to stand, crouch, sit, bend, use hands and fingers to handle or feel as well as reaching with hands and arms to spaces both high and low. The employee will be standing, walking, climbing, balancing, crawling, crouching, lifting, holding or stooping while on shift
Ability to climb telephone poles and work in a bucket truck and work aloft and climb poles up to 40 feet
Ability to work while wearing safety boots, safety glasses and hardhat
Ability to work in adverse weather conditions which can include but is not limited to: extreme heat and cold temperatures; inclement weather such as wind, rain, snow, sleet and dust as well as adverse driving conditions including wet roads, icy roads, and fog
Employees in this job classification may be exposed to dust, fumes or other airborne pathogens
Must be able to lift/carry 50 lbs regularly and up to 100 LBS as needed with or without assistance
Salary Range $38-42 per hour
