North Wind Services is actively seeking individuals who can contribute to national security within the science, technology, and engineering fields as part of our supplemental labor team at vital federal research and development installations supporting the Department of Energy. NWS has an established history of contributing to the success of their customers mission. Qualified applicants must be a US citizen, at least 18 years of age, and able to meet pre-employment requirements including any required physicals, drug screen, and/or background investigation to satisfy clearance requirements from the Department of Energy.

Successful candidates will be employees of NWS, a premier government contractor charged with employing highly-motivated and well-qualified personnel who can advance the missions of the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in Livermore, CA. Though employed by NWS, the employee will take day-to-day direction from technical personnel employed directly by the research laboratories. Pay, benefits, Human Resource, and Employment Management functions are provided by NWS.

The Operations & Business Directorate has an opening for a Project Coordinator within the Environment, Safety & Health (ES&H) Directorate in the Environmental Functional Area. The successful candidate will assist in the development, execution, and analysis of sustainability efficiency projects. The successful candidate will support the sustainability team in studying new and proposed sustainable initiatives, projecting energy and water savings, and determining overall feasibility of specific projects. This includes evaluating the impact of projects in various stages from concept and design to commissioning and maintenance. One specific project will include an audit of an existing low conductivity water (LCW) system to identify sustainability opportunities.

Essential Duties

– Conduct audit of LCW system according to developed scope of work; collaborate with various stakeholders to gather needed data and information to fully evaluate the LCW system.

– Document methodologies used, and steps taken throughout the data collection and analysis process.

– Identify areas for improvement and develop recommendations for follow-up action; prepare a final report describing findings, recommendations, and overall impacts.

– Assist with the evaluation of other sustainability infrastructure and equipment upgrade projects to calculate efficiency gains, greenhouse gas reductions, and cost savings.

-Identify opportunities to align infrastructure maintenance requirements with sustainability needs and goals and develop recommendations on how to implement these.

– Perform facility audits using site-specific developed tools to identify and recommended energy and water conservation measures.

– In collaboration with the sustainability team, recommend, evaluate, plan and participate in the implementation of water conservation initiatives. Provide input on various water reuse opportunities currently being explored.

– Perform other duties as assigned.

Essential Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

-Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship.

-Bachelors degree in an environmental discipline or the equivalent combination of education and significant related experience and demonstrated ability to lead independent work.

-Have technical knowledge of water systems, water/energy efficiency measures, and data collection and analysis.

-Effective interpersonal skills necessary to interact effectively in writing and verbally with technical and management personnel and work effectively independently or as a team member.

-Analytical approach to problem solving with excellent troubleshooting ability.

-Intermediate level experience with MS Office Suite including Excel, Word, and TEAMS.

Desired Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

– Experience working at a National Laboratory or similar

– Experience in water conservation, or directly related field, including water usage investigation and analysis.

– Knowledge and understanding of sustainability concepts, energy and water efficiency practices.

– Knowledge in various data collection and assessment methodologies.

Special Requirements

Pre-Placement Medical Exam: A job-related pre-placement medical examination may be required.

Anticipated Clearance Level: Q (position will be cleared to this level). Applicants selected will be subject to a federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. In addition, all L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing. Q-level clearance requires U.S. citizenship. If you hold multiple citizenships (U.S. and another country), you may be required to renounce your non-U.S. citizenship before a DOE L or Q clearance will be processed/granted.
