North Wind Services is actively seeking individuals who can contribute to national security within the science, technology, and engineering fields as part of our supplemental labor team at vital federal research and development installations supporting the Department of Energy. NWS has an established history of contributing to the success of their customers mission. Qualified applicants must be a US citizen, at least 18 years of age, and able to meet pre-employment requirements including any required physicals, drug screen, and/or background investigation to satisfy clearance requirements from the Department of Energy.
Successful candidates will be employees of NWS, a premier government contractor charged with employing highly motivated and well-qualified personnel who can advance the missions of the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in Livermore, CA. Though employed by NWS, the employee will take day-to-day direction from technical personnel employed directly by the research laboratories. Pay, benefits, Human Resource, and Employment Management functions are provided by NWS.
The Strategic Deterrence Directorate has an opening in the Nuclear Test Data Group for a Chemist to archive and digitize processes and interpretation of historical radiochemical documentation for stockpile stewardship while developing procedures for Archivist Workflow under ADAM (Archiving and Data Management Program). The successful candidate will report to the Nuclear Test Data Program Group Leader with minimal supervision. The successful candidate will mentor and transfer knowledge to peers. The successful candidate will train staff to work with documentation that is not easily identifiable in order to make sure the documents are digitized in a useful context to final users.
This position may require the employee to have the flexibility to work overtime, shift and/or weekends, work remotely, and travel to various locations away from LLNL to accomplish goals. The successful candidate will be required to pass various on-site training modules to pursue work assignments.
Essential Duties
– Conduct quality assurance checks and analysis of digitized radiochemical documents to enhance the searchability of radiochemical data and nuclear test history.
-Provide technical assistance with providing context to archiving of historical documentation within radiochemistry.
– Mentor staff in the area of digitization and quality assurance of our radiochemical data and documentation via knowledge transfer.
– Modernization process controls used to generate and validate the digitized nuclear test data documentation.
– Interact with data archiving personnel to provide valuable information and context.
– Provide biweekly updates on process flow and QA associated activities.
– Work towards on improving the process project workflow by frequently meeting with other staff to discuss technical aspects of Quality Assurance of digitized documents.
– Work with early career staff scientists and program managers for implementing processes while also working with other staff to develop process skills and perform quality assurance on digitized products.
– Review quality assurance documentation and provide feedback.
– All other job duties as assigned.
Essential Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
– Minimum of 10 years of experience in nuclear test data and/or radiochemistry processes and procedures.
– B.A. or B.S. in Chemistry or equivalent area of science, such as Radiochemistry, Geochemistry, Physics or Biology.
– Experience in leading projects, communicating, and engaging with groups in a team environment.
– Experience in mentoring and motivating groups to achieve technical objectives.
– Expert level knowledge of nuclear and radiochemistry techniques.
– Strong experience working with Microsoft Suite, including but not limited to Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
– Subject matter expert in analysis and interpretation of radiochemical documentation from nuclear test history.
– Strong understanding of the U.S. weapons testing history.
Desired Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
– Experience in developing process workflow and procedures with knowledge of performing quality assurance.
– Experience with leading small groups (2-3) to obtain mission goals and deliverables.
Special Requirements
Pre-Placement Medical Exam: A job related pre-placement medical examination may be required.

Anticipated Clearance Level: Q (position will be cleared to this level). Applicants selected will be subject to a federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. In addition, all L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing. Q-level clearance requires U.S. citizenship. If you hold multiple citizenships (U.S. and another country), you may be required to renounce your non-U.S. citizenship before a DOE L or Q clearance will be processed/granted.
