Department Background:
The New York State Integrated Pest Management Program (NYSIPM) provides research-based educational outreach in the areas of agriculture and community IPM throughout the region. NYSIPM is closely linked with Cornell CALS, the Land Grant University of New York State. Position Summary:

The Front-End Developer will be a key player in developing and enhancing user interfaces for one of our most popular websites, as well as other related web development projects, using React. These projects are crucial in supporting outreach and education efforts across New York State and the United States, making this role integral to our mission of expanding access to valuable resources and information.
You will work closely with our digital team to ensure a seamless and intuitive user experience across all platforms. You will be responsible for translating user requirements into interactive and responsive designs, ensuring that the front-end components are not only visually appealing but also optimized for performance and accessibility. Your work will involve close collaboration with NYSIPM digital team members who develop back-end utilities to integrate front-end components with RESTful APIs, ensuring that data is efficiently and securely passed between the server and the client.
While the primary focus of this position is front-end development, having some experience with Django and server-side rendering will be highly beneficial, though not required. This experience will allow you to contribute to broader development efforts, particularly in projects where the integration of server-rendered content with dynamic React components is required. Your ability to navigate both client-side and server-side technologies will make you a versatile asset to the team.
This is a full-time exempt position that offers flexibility for hybrid remote work, allowing you to balance your time between remote work and in-office collaboration. While much of your work can be done remotely, occasional in-person meetings will be required to foster team cohesion and address project-specific needs. Additionally, you will participate in weekly virtual standup meetings with the digital team to ensure alignment on project goals, share progress updates, and address any challenges that arise.
Required Qualifications:
- Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing.
- Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Experience incorporating the perspectives of multiple communities, including communities of color.

- Ability to serve as an advocate for individuals of all ethnicities, genders, ages, and backgrounds.

- Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field is required.
- 3-5 years of professional experience in front-end development, with a strong focus on React.js.
- Experience working in a collaborative team environment, preferably within agile development teams.
- Proven track record of delivering high-quality, responsive web applications in production environments.
- Experience in integrating front-end components with RESTful APIs and familiarity with version control systems like Git.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Django or other back-end frameworks, particularly in environments where front-end and back-end integration is key.
- Prior experience in educational, non-profit, or outreach-focused organizations is a plus.
- Contributions to open-source projects or a strong portfolio showcasing your work in front-end development.
