Entry Level Design Engineer

Actalent Engineering is currently hiring for Associate Distribution Engineers to join their team in Florida. This person will support the engineering and design of power distribution infrastructure upgrades and storm hardening projects across Florida. The initial projects are in support of Duke Energy, Florida Power & Light and TECO.

The projects consist of retrofitting transformers, replacing deteriorating cable, relocating overhead lines to underground, reconductoring of existing distribution lines, and replacing aging poles.

The engineering calculations associated with these projects include structural analysis of poles, guying, cable pulling, electric demand, fault currents, and coordination of protective devices.

Other tasks associated with these projects include preparing forestry trimming requests, facilitating permit and Right-of-Way acquisition, development of a Bill Of Materials, estimating costs, etc.

Time will be split between customer interactions in the field/over the phone and design/engineering work.

Minimum Qualifications:

Graduation from a college or university with a Bachelor Degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Civil Engineering.

Desire to start a career in the power utility industry.

Understanding of basic practices of researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations and preparing and presenting recommendations.

Ability to deal with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds.

Good written and oral communication skills, with the ability to communicate frequently with customers.

Desired Qualifications:

Recent experience with Duke Energy, performing distribution design.

Experience in the electric utility industry, with working knowledge of primary and secondary distribution systems, utility standards, ability to use design software packages, and general construction knowledge and aptitude.

Experience interacting with customers and developers for distribution projects.

Current knowledge of BOUD/Maximo, Smallworld, Bentley Open Utility Designer and Microstation.

EIT/ Passed Engineering Fundamentals Exam
