Department Summary:

As part of MITRE’s Software Engineering Innovation Center we focus on delivering software across MITREs sites. We leverage our wide geographic footprint and diverse skillsets to work side-by-side with end users and sponsors. Being in the field allows us to better understand our sponsors needs so we can bring MITRE to bear to deliver exactly what is needed.

Roles & Responsibilities:

We are seeking a Principal Engineer to be the Group Lead for Strategy & Execution. We work with both internal MITRE projects and sponsors across all of MITREs sponsors. The selected candidate will partner with the Department Manager, Chief Engineer, and Group Leads to promote and pursue strategic direction and outcomes, shape new work, and lead key related activities. You will supervise and coach a diverse team of highly motivated software engineers.

In addition to the typical responsibilities of a group lead to coach employees and maximize their potential, the Strategy & Execution Group Lead provides department strategic leadership and acts as a proxy for the Department Manager. They are expected to take a leadership role in shaping and executing the department’s services and long-term strategy. Additional responsibilities include closely partnering with other Group Leaders in the department, providing strategic direction for department hiring, and working with department and division leadership on special initiatives to grow and shape services and capabilities.

Basic Qualifications:

Typically requires a minimum of 10 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 7 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 4 years’ experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.

Strong people leader with 2 years demonstrated success as a GL, TL or PL

Active Secret clearance is required for consideration

A passion to develop the technical, management, and business skills of others

Technical competency to peer review our staff’s work

Collaborative and able to work in a close-knit environment

Ability to foster a productive and satisfying work environment

Ability to have challenging conversations in a respectful, empathetic, and productive manner

An entrepreneurial spirit with experience growing work programs

This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site

Preferred Qualifications:

Active Top Secret clearance

Advanced degree in technical field of study

Knowledge of MITRE people management systems and processes

Knowledge of MITRE business operations systems and processes

Salary compensation range and midpoint:

$168,500 – $210,500 – $252,500 Annual
