Team (Project) Introduction
The Enterprise Security Architecture (ESA) project is a comprehensive initiative by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to enhance and secure its IT infrastructure. The project focuses on developing a unified security architecture that integrates new and emerging technologies, such as cloud computing, IoT, and AI, while ensuring compliance with federal cybersecurity standards. The goal of the ESA project is to protect the VAs information systems and data, ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of critical information while supporting the VAs mission to provide secure, reliable services to Veterans.

As a Senior Technical Writer, you will be responsible for producing high-quality technical documentation that caters to a variety of audiences, including IT professionals, end-users, and stakeholders. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including developers, engineers, and project managers, to gather the necessary information and translate complex technical concepts into user-friendly materials. This role is essential in ensuring that the VAs IT infrastructure and services are effectively communicated and understood across the organization.

Responsibilities

Technical Documentation Development: Produce high-quality technical documentation for the ESA project, translating complex IT systems, security architectures, and project processes into clear, accessible content for diverse audiences.

Content Management: Manage the documentation lifecycle for the ESA project, including the creation, organization, version control, and distribution of technical documents using content management systems and documentation tools like Microsoft Word, Adobe Acrobat, and MadCap Flare.

Translation of Technical Concepts: Work closely with IT architects, cybersecurity experts, and other technical professionals to accurately translate complex technical concepts and terminology into non-technical language that can be easily understood by all stakeholders.

User-Centered Documentation: Develop user-centered documentation that meets the specific needs of the ESA projects diverse audience, including technical manuals, user guides, process documentation, and training materials.

Quality Assurance: Review, edit, and proofread technical content to ensure accuracy, consistency, and clarity, maintaining a high standard of quality across all ESA project documentation.

Information Gathering: Conduct interviews, meetings, and research to gather the necessary information for documentation, ensuring that all content is comprehensive and reflects the latest developments in the ESA project.

Documentation Library Management: Oversee the management of the ESA projects documentation library, ensuring that all materials are well-organized, up-to-date, and easily accessible to authorized users.

Stakeholder Collaboration: Collaborate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders within the ESA project to ensure that all documentation needs are met and that content is aligned with project objectives and user requirements.

Documentation Process Improvement: Identify gaps in existing documentation and develop solutions to improve the quality, accessibility, and usability of technical content, ensuring that the ESA projects documentatio supports effective project execution.

Project Management: Manage multiple documentation projects simultaneously, ensuring that all deadlines are met and that documentation is delivered on time and within scope.

Troubleshooting and Support: Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to documentation processes and tools, providing support to the ESA project team in the creation and maintenance of technical documentation.

Standards and Best Practices: Ensure that all documentation adheres to established standards and best practices in technical writing, maintaining consistency in tone, style, and format across all ESA project documents.

Technical Writing Certification: Maintain and apply relevant technical writing certifications, such as Certified Professional Technical Communicator (CPTC), to ensure that documentation practices remain current with industry standards.

Requirements

Bachelors degree in English, communications, technical writing, information technology, or a related field. 5 additional years of relevant experience considered in lieu of Degree.

Certifications in technical writing, such as Certified Professional Technical Communicator (CPTC), are highly preferred.

7 years of experience in technical writing, preferably within an IT or technology-focused environment.

Proven track record of producing high-quality technical documentation for complex IT systems and projects.

Strong understanding of IT concepts, systems, and terminology, with the ability to translate technical information into clear, non-technical language.

Proficiency with documentation tools such as Microsoft Word, Adobe Acrobat, MadCap Flare, and content management systems.

Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with a strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain a consistent tone and style.

Ability to create user-centered documentation that meets the needs of diverse audiences.

Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Experience in gathering information through interviews, meetings, and research, and translating it into clear, structured documentation.

Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.

Experience in managing documentation libraries, version control, and content management systems.

Proven ability to identify documentation gaps and develop solutions to improve the quality and accessibility of technical content.

Ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues related to documentation processes and tools.

Salary Range
The salary range for this position is $60,069.60 – $106,875.00
