Job Summary

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key part in the rollout of Broadband and Fiber deployments across Rural America. The Field Engineer will be one of the 1st people on site and will work directly with the engineering team and the OSP construction team to ensure that OSP engineering designs are validated and reviewed.  They will coordinate with the design and engineering team and provide feedback on the design including any changes or suggested updates. As a Field Engineer you will be communicating with, our engineering, Project management and construction teams. You will be the eyes on site identifying field conditions and construction constraints. As the successful candidate you will possess a solid understanding of the technology, project life cycle, and applicable Design and Engineering standard practices.  

Responsibilities

Collect and/or create utility information from OSP facilities (anchors, guying, etc.) based on individual project standards 

Assess make ready needs through member infrastructure 

Identify relevant obstructions to fiber placement and provide proposed mitigation strategy 

Provide information to complete field survey documents and photographs 

Review and provide feedback on ideal locations for new OSP facilities 

Create field sketches as needed 

Provide engineering feedback via a technology-based application (Field Maps) upon field review of design 

Assist with review and interpretation of construction redlines and inspection reports 

Work with engineering and construction teams to identify and address member concerns 

Consistent travel to fiber rollout out project sites across America to undertake fielding 90% travel 

Other Duties as assigned 

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities      

Basic knowledge of make-ready issues, construction, and materials 

Able to identify different types of utilities, potential conflicts, and violations based on regulatory standards (RUS, NESC, NEC, etc.) 

Knowledge of general OSP standard industry practices 

Provide ROW and utility feedback 

Organize engineering locates 

Must have a good understanding of ROW, site acquisitions, and permitting 

Able to use standard OSP fielding equipment (height stick, measuring wheel, pull finder, guy rule) 

Proficient use of electronic devices, such as iPad, iPhone, laptop, file sharing, email, etc. 

Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills 

Strong written and verbal communication skills 

Quick learner with self-initiative and pride in end results 

Superb work ethic and commitment to customer satisfaction 

Minimum Education and Experience

3 years in OSP field engineering or related discipline 

Experience in ESRI GIS systems is helpful 

Experience in Excel and/or Smartsheets 

Physical Demands

Valid driver’s license and ability to travel is a must

Must have the ability to live away from home for long periods of time
