Job Summary

At Site Work Specialists, a superintendent supervises and directs activities of the crews and coordinates subcontractors. They also keep operations efficient and within specified deadlines and budgets. The superintendent is responsible for the overall quality of a project. The positions skill set is continuously increasing by working with an exceptional team that prides itself on doing some of the finest and most challenging projects in the northern plains region.

Essential Functions

Safety on your project is your responsibility

Know what is needed for safety on-site

Attend and conduct safety meetings, maintain safe job site practices and the use of safety equipment, and ensure the crews follow safe work practices

Responsible for the layout of a project

Knowledgeable in the layout and operation of theodolite and transit

Supervise operation and maintenance of all machines and equipment on the job

Direct activity of workers

Know your project including, but not limited to:

Know your plans and specifications

Know and follow your schedule

Know your job cost and discuss with the Project Manager

Know your material, equipment and workforce needs ahead of time and communicate those needs to your Project Manager with a two-week schedule – Plan ahead!

Pre-task planning to ensure the task is done efficiently and safely

Have the right crew for the task at hand. Schedule crews duties and assign responsibilities

Attend project pre-construction and progress meetings. Conduct coordination meetings with subcontractors.

Communicate with, coordinate, and direct supervisory personnel and subcontractors on various phases of the work

Communicate with Project Manager, Owners, Architects, Engineers, and Inspectors to resolve and coordinate construction.

Inspect work in progress to ensure accuracy, quality and that work conforms to the plans and specifications

Complete paperwork correctly and turn it in on time – Daily Logs, Weekly Safety Sheets, Time Cards, Walk Arounds, and Two-week Schedules

Perform training as needed in all areas of the project

Teach inexperienced employees how to perform tasks more efficiently and safely

Ensure that appropriate materials and equipment are on-site for the construction when needed

Review submittals and shop drawings to ensure that the materials and equipment received are correct

Advise Project Manager of job progress through daily logs and meet regularly with your Project Manager as needed

Complete the job

Timely completion of punch lists

Do not use or operate any equipment or tools that you have not been trained to operate properly

Assist with all tasks; even if it is below your skill level

Education Requirements:

No minimum education requirements

Job Requirements and Qualifications

Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screening and random employee pool drug/alcohol testing

Must have a valid drivers license

Must arrive on time to job site fit for duty for required shift and have personal protective equipment (PPE) and necessary tools with you.

Willingness to learn and master new tasks, duties, and responsibilities

Pay attention to job details to provide an acceptable uniform product

Identify and communicate any job site hazards

Safely and correctly operate all manual and power tools

Keep all tools in good, clean, and operating order

Demonstrate and promote safety and proper housekeeping on all job sites

Display a positive attitude towards the company, fellow employees, and customers

Take direction and accomplish duties outlined by your supervisor and ask questions when you do not understand the task

Be responsible for working unsupervised and complete work as directed

Ability to instruct and direct laborers and other construction helpers in a positive and encouraging manner

Attend all safety meetings and maintain safe job site practices following company policy

Wear and maintain PPE as directed by supervisor and safety team, including but not limited to hard hats, safety glasses, and high visibility vests

Willingness to travel out-of-town

Maintain acceptable personal hygiene

Dress appropriately for working conditions

Physical Requirements

Able to physically lift heavy materials (up to 75 pounds) frequently throughout the work shift

Ability to safely climb up and down ladders

Ability to work alone once instructions have been given

Able to complete a full days assignments involving one or more of the following: Standing, sitting, bending, stooping, squatting, crawling, climbing, kneeling, balancing, pushing, pulling, reaching overhead, and repetitive use of arms, hands, and fingers

Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment and any other safety-related equipment

Able to work in extreme weather conditions and elements outdoor, including heat, cold, rain, mud, dust, and snow, depending on the job location

Able to work a minimum of 8 hours a day, with overtime and off-hour shifts as required
