Position Summary:
The Trouser Sewing Supervisor is responsible for training, assigning, and coordinating work activities, and ensuring daily quality/production goals are met. The Supervisor will also assist in translating for employees speaking French and Haitian Creole while onboarding and working.
Responsibilities:
Train sewing machine operators to use correct methods for all operations in their department.
Learn specifications of each order and teach the specification to operators.
Communicate clear instructions to operators.
Instruct new sewing machine operators on how to use and care for the equipment properly.
Review videotape and/or read the job description for each operation within their department prior to training a new operator.
Supervisor will listen to the operators issues and/or concerns which affect the operators production, as well as general concerns and learn how to solve problems within their department.
Set and demonstrate good work examples.
Train operators on how to calculate their efficiency percentage.
Establish methods to meet and coordinate work activities with operators and other departments and assign work to operators in order to achieve production goals.
Communicate with the “Department Head Supervisor” when it is necessary to achieve quality product and/or meet the production goal set for the department.
Responsible for learning the company policies and rules and enforcing them.
Must be able to translate all documents, training materials, manifests, etc., and communicate in employees language.
Will participate in the hiring process for applicants where translation services are required.
Additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
High School Diploma or equivalent required
Previous experience as a supervisor (preferably sewing industry).
Experience working in a manufacturing setting.
Comply with safety rules and maintain a clean and orderly work area.
Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function for this position
Flexible to work mandatory overtime when required.
Ability to speak, read, and write both English and French in an advanced to fluent efficiency.
Able to use computers and catch on quickly.
Capacity to work independently or within a team environment and follow direction.
Sewing experience and knowledge of industrial sewing machines is a plus
Attention to detail.
Ability to work and collaborate with other supervisors and direct reports.
Physical Requirements:
Positional: May be required to sit or stand for extended periods of time. Extended periods of walking, bending, stooping, reaching, climbing Must be able to grasp or manipulate small items for assembly. Continuous lifting /carrying of 25 lbs. or more up to 50 lbs.
Gross Mobility: Infrequent climbing, or crawling. Frequent balancing, stooping, kneeling, or crouching.
Sensory: Rare tasting/smelling. Use of color vision. Occasional use of far visual acuity, depth perception, and field of vision. Frequent use of near and midrange visual acuity, and visual accommodation. Frequent to constant talking.
