JOB SUMMARY

Performs general maintenance to golf course grounds and facilities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Two (2) years of work experience in a closely related field is required, of which one (1) year must have been worked on a golf course; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Must obtain a State of Utah Non-Commercial Pesticide Applicators License within six (6) months of hire.

Due to the nature of this position, the successful applicant must pass a required background investigation.

Possession of a valid Utah Drivers License is required in order to drive County vehicles

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Assists with golf course grounds and facility maintenance.

Operates a variety of equipment.

Responds to emergency calls and exigent situations.

Designs, reconfigures, and performs the installation, maintenance, and repair of all aspects of the irrigationand water distribution system.

Adjusts, repairs, or replaces manual/automatic sprinkler/irrigation system components.

Supervises, monitors, and trains part-time and seasonal staff and enforces applicable safety standards.

Assists in the annual budget preparation process and monitors expenditures.

Establishes, maintains, implements, and monitors inventory.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILIITES (KSA)

Knowledge of:

• Basic welding and methods of fabrication • Basics of the design, construction and maintenance of golf course greens, tees, fairways, sand traps, etc. • Maintenance and repair of machinery and equipment used on golf courses • Design and lay-out of golf course irrigation/sprinkling systems • Maintenance and repair of golf course automated sprinkling/irrigation systems • Automated and computerized systems to control the golf course irrigation and sprinkling functions • Lawn care including types of grasses, seeds and seeding procedures • The use, formulation and application of fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, and fungicides and the latest in product knowledge and industry standards • Tree and shrub selection, planting and care • Turf, tree and shrub problems and diseases • Weed identification and treatment • The game of golf, its rules, regulations and course marking procedures

Skills and Abilities to:

• Perform job with minimum supervision and work independently • Communicate effectively with superiors, other employees, and the public both verbally and in writing • Effectively supervise and train subordinate employees • Operate a variety of equipment

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This position requires extensive physical labor- lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying objects over 50 pounds (occasionally up to 100 pounds with some assistance): kneeling, bending, sitting and standing. The work involves exposure to extreme weather conditions, dirt, dust, heat, cold, chemicals, smoke, and/or loud noises.
