COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: SALARY RANGE $32.96 – $45.53 BASED ON YEARS OF EXPERIENCE.
SELECTION GUIDELINES:
A formal application must be made to the Grantsville City Police Department. The following is the testing procedure:
– Applicants will be scored and invited to a test consisting of a written portion and a physical agility test.
– Top applicants will be invited for in-person interviews.
– Following the interviews, conditional offers of employment will then be made (conditional upon the passing of a physical exam and drug screening).
– Successful applicants will then be subject to a reference check and full background investigation.
– Top applicants will then interview with the Chief of Police.
GENERAL PURPOSE:
Perform technical law enforcement duties in enforcing the laws, maintaining the peace and protecting Grantsville City citizens.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Work under close supervision from the Sergeant/Lieutenant/Chief
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
Under limited supervision, supervises law enforcement activities of:
– Reserve Officers
– Volunteers
– Crossing Guards
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
The position requires completion of the Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST).
The job places life or personal safety at risk.
The employee performs duties that actively prevent or detect crime and enforce criminal statues or ordinances of the state of Utah or any of its political subdivisions.
The employee responds to situations involving threats to public safety and making emergency decisions affecting the lives and health of others.
The employee performs duties that consist of providing community protection.
Patrols City areas in vehicle or on foot to deter and detect criminal acts; makes security check on businesses, schools, churches, and homes.
Provides protection of persons and property against hazards, including (but not limited to) fire, theft, injury, damage and accidents.
Patrols assigned area; issues citations, warnings, and all manners of court documents.
Enforces traffic regulations; directs traffic and assists motorists; investigates traffic accidents.
Performs traffic control and other safety duties as required; administers first aid when needed.
Responds to calls for assistance; handles both criminal and civil disturbances; secures all crime scenes; investigates crimes and interrogates complainants, witnesses and suspects.
Performs specialized duties in the area such as investigation and fingerprinting.
Serves legal processes, summons and subpoenas; testifies in court.
Operates radar, intoxilyzer and other police equipment necessary for arrests and convictions, and maintains certifications on such.
Prepares all manners of forms and report; books prisoners in jail; and assists on medical and fire calls.
Attends classes and provides information to the public on law enforcement and of the area of public safety. Performs a variety of public service, presentations, and security assistance.
Subject to 24 hours a day emergency calls.
Cleans and maintain assigned vehicle and equipment on a daily basis.
Performs animal control duties and enforcement as required.
Performs related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
– Education and experience:
· Graduation from high school.
· UTAH P.O.S.T. certification (SFO and LEO).
– Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
· Working knowledge of local, state and federal laws; working a proper arrest practices and procedures.
· Skill in the use of firearms and a variety of police equipment.
· Ability to react quickly under conditions of stress; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with employees, other agencies and the public; ability to follow written and verbal instructions; ability to ommunicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
Patrols highways and street; works under hazardous conditions, such as inclement weather, high speed pursuits, hazardous chemical spills and encounter dangerous situations, works rotating shifts, holidays and weekends; carries a firearm and may be required to use deadly force.
· Must not have been convicted of a crime for which the applicant could have been punished by imprisonment in the federal penitentiary or by imprisonment in the penitentiary of this or another state and shall not have been convicted of an offense of dishonesty or any other criminal convictions involving unlawful sexual conduct, physical violence, or the unlawful use, sale or possession of a controlled substance within the previous four years beginning with the date of conviction or plea. (Expungement of convictions obtained in this state or any other jurisdiction shall be considered for purposes of hiring). DUI: Must not have been convicted of a DUI within the previous four (4) years beginning with the date of conviction or plea. · Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age.
· Must be a citizen of the United States at the time of hiring.
