Job Description

Gilead Sciences currently has an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated recent graduate who would like to join the industry and work on curing diseases at Gilead Research’s Protein Science group. The successful candidate will perform experiments in close collaboration with research project teams to generate and validate potential therapeutic proteins and surrogate tool molecules. The candidate needs to be team-oriented, professional, hard-working, and eager to learn new skills.

Responsibilities:

• Perform protein qualification assays to verify sample quality, for samples produced internally or externally at CRO or partners.

• Record data in Electronic Lab Notebook (ELN) and Genedata Biologics (GDB).

• Check protein samples into Sample Bank to support the preclinical development of biopharmaceutical programs across multiple therapeutic areas.

• Perform protein formulation through buffer exchange, concentration adjustment, and buffer preparation.

• Use good verbal and written communication skills to relay scientific data.

• Actively participate in group meetings, present the results of one’s work, interpret data, and draw conclusions, and propose next steps regarding presented material.

• Proactively seek out senior personnel and team members to discuss potential solutions to challenges.

• Maintain awareness of cutting-edge technical developments and scientific knowledge and apply these where possible to improve process efficiency.

Education and Experience:

• BA/BS in Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, or related field with 0 – 2 years of knowledge, or relevant experience with the below-listed characteristics and techniques for the position.

Required skills:

• Background in protein sciences and protein biochemistry.

• Knowledge in analytical protein characterization techniques such as size exclusion chromatography (SEC)-HPLC or UHPLC, SDS-PAGE, endotoxin measurement, capillary electrophoresis-SDS (CE-SDS), dynamic light scattering (DLS), SEC coupled with multi-angel light scattering (SEC-MALS).

• Knowledge of protein buffer exchange technologies (e.g., dialysis, desalting, tangential flow filtration).

• Follows instructions to ensure assigned work is completed on time and meets the expected quality.

• Detailed record-keeping is a must.

• Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced team environment.

• Demonstrated team player, professional, hard-working, and eager to learn new skills.

Nice to have skills:

• Experience in protein purification technologies would be a strong plus

• Experience in robotics, scripting, and automated liquid handling systems would be a plus.

The salary range for this position is: $80,325.00 – $103,950.00. Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package. Benefits include company-sponsored medical, dental, vision, and life insurance plans.
