Staff Nurse (RN) (Union) – Cardiac Cath Lab

UPMC Somerset is seeking a Full-time Staff Nurse to join their team in the Cardiac Cath Lab. A Staff Nurse, whether an RN or GN, is a key part of the care team, setting care standards and ensuring quality. They manage patient care for groups of patients and their families, using their judgment and working with the whole team. This role involves leadership, collaboration, and supervision, building strong relationships with doctors, other healthcare providers, patients, and families to achieve the best outcomes. They also start showing a commitment to the community and the nursing profession.

Responsibilities:

Actively participates in clinical development and RN residency programs for new hires, seeking opportunities to learn from experienced nurses. Uses feedback from peers, preceptors, and leaders to improve practice and shows enthusiasm for continuous learning.

Identifies patient and family education needs and provides basic education to support care. Pursues professional development through nursing organization memberships and regular reading of professional literature.

Demonstrates basic research knowledge and its impact on practice by asking questions and participating in unit-based journal clubs. Shows understanding of how quality and innovation affect patient satisfaction, safety, and clinical outcomes.

Uses basic nursing knowledge and skills within Relationship-Based Care to meet patient and family needs. Communicates effectively both verbally and in writing, and demonstrates critical thinking in identifying clinical, social, safety, and spiritual issues.

Demonstrates accountability for professional development and quality patient care. Recommends improvements in clinical care and workplace health, and participates in change initiatives.

1 year interventional Cath Lab or Critical Care or Telemetry nursing experience.

Must complete licensure examination within SIX MONTHS of hire or within one year of graduation, whichever comes first. Though temporary permits are valid for one year from the date of graduation, not one year from issue of permit (or until the results of the examination are known at which time it becomes null and void), UPMC requires that GNs take the licensure examination within 6 months of their start date or they will be terminated or demoted from the GN position, at the discretion of the BU.

BSN preferred.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

Registered Nurse (RN) OR Temporary Practice Permit (TPP)

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)

Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.

Act 34 with renewal

Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state. Hires and current employees working on an out-of-state NLC license who later change their residency to the state where the facility is also located will have 60 days upon changing their residency to apply for licensure within that state.
