We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced CMT Practice Team Manager. Responsible for managing laboratory and field operations related to testing and quality assurance of construction materials, including concrete, asphalt, aggregates, and soils. This position involves supervising a team of lab technicians and field inspectors, maintaining lab equipment, ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards, and providing accurate, timely test results to support construction projects. The manager will coordinate with clients, contractors, and project managers to ensure all materials meet project specifications and regulatory requirements.
Job responsibilities include but are not limited to :
Manage Laboratory Operations:
Oversee the testing of construction materials including concrete, asphalt, soil, and aggregates.
Manage scheduling, workflow, and resource allocation for lab personnel.
Ensure the lab adheres to quality standards such as ASTM, AASHTO, CalTrans, or other relevant standards.
Implement the Quality Management System and maintain a clean and organized laboratory in compliance with AMRL, AASHTO, CCRL, and DOT accreditation requirements, including calibration and maintenance records.
Field Testing Management:
Coordinate and supervise field testing operations for materials used on construction sites.
Ensure field technicians perform tests according to project specifications and relevant standards.
Review and approve field test results.
Team Leadership:
Supervise and mentor lab technicians, field inspectors, and testing staff.
Conduct training sessions to keep the team updated on testing protocols and safety regulations.
Lead performance evaluations and foster a culture of continuous improvement within the team.
Quality Assurance:
Implement and monitor quality control/assurance programs to ensure compliance with project requirements and industry standards.
Oversee the creation and documentation of test reports and certifications.
Address non-conformances and recommend corrective actions.
Compliance & Safety:
Enforce compliance with all relevant safety regulations and standards, ensuring a safe working environment on the project site.
Monitor and ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to safety protocols by all team members.
Identify potential safety hazards and recommend solutions to mitigate risks.
Client & Project Coordination:
Serve as a point of contact between the laboratory, field teams, and project management.
Communicate test results, issues, and recommendations to project stakeholders.
Collaborate with contractors, engineers, and clients to resolve material-related issues.
Data Management and Reporting:
Oversee the collection, analysis, and reporting of test data.
Experience with LIMs system a plus
Prepare detailed reports and present findings to internal and external stakeholders.
Maintain organized records of all test data, certifications, and equipment calibrations.
Requirements:
Bachelor of Science degree in related Science, Engineering, or Engineering Technology. On-the-job experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible and technical experience related to Construction Materials Lab management/leadership experience.
Must have ACI Concrete Strength Testing Technician, ACI Field Testing Technician Level I, ACI Concrete Laboratory Testing Technician – Level 1 Certification, NICET (National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies) or other relevant certifications and ability to achieve others
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare detailed reports and effectively communicate findings to various stakeholders.
Knowledge of the standard practices, processes, tools, equipment, and materials relatedcoatings.
Work independently with limited supervision.
Legally authorized to work in the United States
Compensation:
$120k – $165k annual salary
The expected salary range for the position is displayed in accordance with the state’s law. Final agreed upon compensation is based upon individual qualifications and experience.
