Summary You will serve as a SAFETY & OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH SPECIALIST in the Safety and Occupational Health Office of NAVAL SUPPORT ACTIVITY MONTEREY. Salary range: GS-09: $74,642 – $97,034 per annum GS-11: $90,310 – $117,400 per annum Responsibilities You will investigate workplaces, facilities, and operation mishaps by obtaining statements from witnesses or taking photographs of mishap scene. You will perform risk assessments of hazardous processes and working conditions to determine hazard control techniques that minimize or eliminate unsafe and unhealthful operations. You will coordinate long-term studies of unsafe work conditions with supervisors. You will draft reports on mishap investigations resulting in damage to property, equipment, or occupational illness to personnel explaining identifies causes and preventative actions. You will develop safety and occupational health presentations to increase personnel awareness and maintain a safe and healthy work environment. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications For the GS-11: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Inspecting the work environment for hazardous operational conditions; 2) Identifying the origin, cause and contributing elements of mishaps and hazardous conditions occurring in the work environment; 3) Presenting safety and mishap prevention training to employees; 4) Advising workers on safety requirements, potential accident causing situations and methods for preventing accidents. For the GS-09: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Identifying and resolving hazardous operational conditions in the work environment; 2) Recording the circumstances of accidents in the workplace (e.g. witness statements, description of property damage, extent of injuries); 3) Presenting safety and mishap prevention training to employees. Education In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience: GS-11: Successful completion of a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology OR Successful completion of three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology OR Successful completion of an LL.M. degree that is related to the position being filled. GS-09: Successful completion of a masters or equivalent graduate degree in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology OR Successful completion of two full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a masters degree in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology OR I have obtained an LL.B. or J.D. that is related to the position being filled.
