Job Summary
Difficult fabrication of steel parts. Read blue prints and build to specifications using hand-held power tools and track type oxy-fuel cutting apparatus with minimum supervision. Perform many different kinds of welding and cutting using gas and electric welding equipment to fabricate steel with minimum supervision.
Essential Job Functions

1. Lay out rises, slopes, and bevels using framing squares.
2. Lay out and build fixtures.
3. Pass tack weld test in 3F and 4F positions with F4 electrode group.
4. Interpret structural steel blueprints (shop drawings).
5. Be able to camber.
6. Operate 90 angle grinder.
7. Heat-straighten using torch.
8. Operate cutting torch.
9. Utilize impact wrench to tighten bolts.
10. Operate overhead pendent controlled bridge crane safely and efficiently.
11. Fabricate truss and rolled beam.
12. Operate radiograph/track torch.
13. Be qualified welder (Class C) with greater efficiency.
14. Perform FCAW (2G) welding. Be able to pass 2G test in FCAW on 1 thick coupon. Be able to pass 2G test in SMAW group 4 electrodes on 3/8 coupon.
15. Operate air arc to remove steel (back-gouging).
16. Read weld symbols and check weld size using weld fillet gauges.
17. Heat material to required temperature using temperature sticks and heating torch/cutting torch. Read and follow pre-heat and interpass temperature tables.
18. Set machines according to procedure charts.
19. Operate air chipper to chip off slag.
20. Use natural gas tube heaters to pre-heat steel.
21. Operate stud welder.
22. Follow weld procedures as it applies to volts, amps, and wire-feed speed.
23. Heat, straighten and be able to know when to use pre-heat to offset weld distortion.
24. Perform other duties as required by management.

Qualifications and Requirements
Required: High school diploma or equivalent. Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs over shoulder height. Must be able to read blueprints. Ability to read tape measure to 1/16 increments and add/subtract dimensions. Ability to read weld symbols and basic knowledge of structural steel fasteners and welding procedures. Basic knowledge of ASIC code of standard practices and AWS D1.1 Chapter 3 (workmanship). Should be knowledgeable in procedures 401, 402, 403, 404, and 405. FCAW (2G) SMAW (2G). Must be familiar with WP1 (manual shielded metal arc welding of carbon steel) and WP2 (flux cored arc welding of carbon steel) and WP3 (flux cored arc welding with gas shielding of carbon steel).
Preferred: Two or more years experience in manufacturing in the steel fabrication industry.
Proficiency and use of software, equipment, machines, tools, and electronic devices necessary for job:

– Squares (combination, bevel, frame)
