Woodworker/Packer

Amentum

The Woodworker/Packer constructs and repairs items such as boxes, crates, pallets, and storage bins from wood and wood substitutes, studies specifications; and measures, marks, and cuts boards, using patterns, templates, ruler, pencil, and hand and power saws.

Essential Responsibilities:

Use plans, blueprints, drawings to select, measure, cut, form, and fabricate wooden containers and platforms.

Fastens or installs parts, using hammer, nailing machine, or power staple, repairs defective containers by replacing damaged parts, inserts wood bracings, cardboard files, and felt pads in containers.

Build crate around object, using ruler, hand tools, and pneumatic nailer, may fabricate, repair, modify, and replace woodwork on vehicle sides and beds, apply preservative to prolong wood life, and may pack, seal, band, and apply markings to crates and containers.

Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested.

Minimum Requirements

Must have a valid drivers license.

Must have a High School Diploma or a General Education Diploma (GED).

Minimum of one year experience using wood shop tools, fabricating containers, or framing construction.

Must be familiar and able to operate all types of wood working equipment.

Must have demonstrated skills to assemble/fabricate wooden containers, mount-out boxes, stands, chest, skids, and platforms.

Must be familiar with all safety devices/guards attached to woodcutting machinery.

Must have woodworking experience in framing, construction, cabinet making, etc.

Must be able to read and understand general technical drawings.

Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance.

Must be able to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, sketches, and work orders.

Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:

Shop environment with hazardous equipment, moving MHE, obstacles and high volume activity. Must be able to lift 35 pounds and carry for short distances, stoop, bend, kneel, walk, have full dexterity, and correctable vision. Outside work in hot, cold and wet weather is often required. Work environment often has fumes or airborne particles. Noise level is loud. Protective devices are required to avoid injury.
