Student Engagement Coordinator

We are seeking a Student Engagement Coordinator who will report to the Director of JHU Museums and will work closely with the museums’ Programs and Interpretation Manager. The coordinator’s duties will focus on coordinating student activities, student engagement, and student employment/internships for Evergreen Museum & Library and Homewood Museum for JHU students and students in the Baltimore area. The coordinator will provide tours at the museums as needed for the JHU and broader community and assist in training student tour guides. The coordinator will play an important role in JHU Museums’ new initiatives to better engage with the college and university community in Baltimore and to serve as a center for learning and exploration about the museums, their collections, and museum careers.
This position will be located at Homewood Museum; however, the coordinator will be crossed-trained to ensure coverage at Evergreen Museum. The coordinator will work programs at both JHU Museums as needed.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Works on the creation and execution of special Museum programs for JHU students, and students at neighboring universities and colleges, in Evergreen’s new student engagement space and at Homewood Museum, ensuring a full and engaging menu of student experiences at both museums.
Coordinates the recruitment and training of JHU student workers and interns.
Leads tours at JHU Museums for students, faculty, and staff at JHU, other area universities and colleges, and for other groups and individuals.
Supervises museum galleries to ensure the safety of the collection during self-guided tours and student activities.
Acts as an alternate for front-desk staff coverage at both museums on weekdays and weekends.
Supports general museum operations and programs as needed (program set up, break down, guest check-in).
Special Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
Ability to use multiple social media channels.
Familiarity with basic graphic design software, such as Canva.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to navigate stairs and lift a maximum of 50 pounds.
Note: The referenced salary range is based on Johns Hopkins Universitys good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or graduation equivalent.
Three years administrative/academic related experience.
Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Preferred Qualifications
Undergraduate degree in museum studies, public history, art history, history, or a related subject.
Prior museum, library, archives, or work is desired but not required.
