This vacancy is located in theNursing DepartmentofLDH/OAAS/VILLA FELICIANA MEDICAL COMPLEX, Jackson, Louisiana. This position may be filled by Probation or Promotion of a permanent state employee. The shifts are 12 hour shift with rotating weekends. The shifts will begin at 5:45pm to 6:15am.

Special Entrance Rate (SER) of Pay based on years of experience as a licensed LPN.
LPN 1 $1558.40 BIWEEKLY $19.48 PER HOUR

LPN 3 $1784.00 BIWEEKLY $22.30 PER HOUR
The salary can be higher depending on experience.

Examples of Work
This position serves as aPractical Nurse – License 3for the Nursing Department at Villa Feliciana Medical Complex, an acute and long term care hospital whose mission is to operate health care programs which provide medical care and treatment for residents with acute, subacute, and chronic illnesses and/or disabilities resulting from trauma or genetic defects.
VFMC is a specialized 24 hour medical facility operating with 150-175 staffed beds, with a license capacity of 299 beds. All beds are licensed as hospital beds. The facility operates a small hospital care service that is surveyed by health standards using hospital licensing requirements, with the remainder of the facility surveyed annually under CMS and state standards for nursing facility care. Specialized units include 10 beds for acute and subacute care including a wound care service, and the only inpatient tuberculosis program in the state. The facility is staffed with a table of organization of 216 classified positions and 20 unclassified positions with a budget in excess of $25 million. The physical plant consists of two patient care buildings, administrative building, activity buildings, support service buildings, staff residences, and a variety of storage and special purpose structures, located on a 157 acre site with its own fresh water system, sewer system, chiller and boiler systems, and electrical distribution system. This facility has control of passage with a security gate at entrance.
EXAMPLES OF WORK:
95% Responsible, without direct supervision, for the supervision and care of patients on a skilled specialty unit as assigned.
Assign, supervise and direct the work performed by LPNs of lower levels, paraprofessionals and ancillary staff who provide care to patients; act as team leader.
Make rounds, assessing patient’s condition with appropriate follow-up. Make rounds with physicians, accurately transcribing and implementing orders. Assist with physical exams and other procedures as needed.
Preparation, administration and documentation of all medications, treatments and IV therapy as ordered.
Accurately proves admissions, transfers, discharges and changes in levels of care.
Assist with development and implementation of patient care plans; attend and participate in patient staffing as assigned.
Perform advanced nursing duties as necessary, without supervision, to patients with multiple medical/behavioral problems.
Documentation of various reports, nurses’ notes/medical records as required and necessary.
Review and initial subordinate staffs required documentation daily.
Prepare assignment schedules for subordinate staff.
Collect blood work and other specimens as ordered.
Conduct updates of physicians orders monthly; preparation and audits of MARs, ADLs, and treatment sheets monthly using computer and software.
Prepare requisitions for all Lab Work, X-Rays, EKG’s.
Maintain adequate medications/supplies as needed.
Supervise meal service for patients; ensure proper tube feeding, and administration of NG/GT patients.
Complete incident/accident reports as necessary.
Initiate First Aid/CPR in emergencies.
Patient teaching regarding their illness and disease process, medications and treatment.
Prepare appropriate papers and assign staff to accompany residents on scheduled clinic/consultant appointments.
Communicate with families appropriately; provide instructions regarding patient’s passes.
Monitor various medical technical equipment; calibrate with documentation as indicated.
Orient new staff; instruct subordinates as needed.
Monitor unit/patient rooms to insure clean and safe environment; promoting proper infection control and safety practices.
5% Maintain current LPN License.
Attend in-service/workshops as scheduled.
Performs all other related duties as required in order to maintain the smooth operation of the Nursing Services Department and Villa Feliciana Medical Complex.
