This position facilitates the validation of the Small Business scoring model by underwriting sample populations of approved and underwriting all declined C&I loan/line requests $250,000 and under. A working knowledge of all aspects of Small Business Administration underwriting and documentation is necessary. Effective communication of decisions to Commercial Lenders, Branch Managers and, at times, Clients is required.

LEADERSHIP

Takes ownership of the Small Business credit process and has the ability to evaluate information provided by the borrower that include, but not limited to, company financial statements, tax returns, personal financial statements, relationship with the Bank, credit history, receivables/payables aging and rent rolls. Reviews decision output from the model to determine if output is consistent with established parameters and recommends and implements adjustments as warranted. Establishes rapport, maintains and grows relationships within the organization. Interact with staff from government agencies as required. Encouraged to be involved in the community.

FOCUS ON ACCURACY AND ATTENTION TO DETAIL

Is accountable for periodically testing the validity of the model by manually underwriting approved credit requests and makes innovative recommendations for revisions of the models decisioning parameters. Creates, compiles, interprets and distributes reports that detail model input/output metrics. Utilizes the scoring model to process qualified annual reviews through the model to determine the current loan risk rating and will follow the traditional annual review process if the existing loan risk rating is not re-affirmed. Adheres to all credit, compliance and risk management policies and procedures.

PROVIDE ENHANCED INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL CLIENT SERVICE

Is Client focused in underwriting declined loan/line requests, using traditional commercial underwriting parameters, to give the decline a second look that allows for inclusion and collaboration with Commercial Lenders and Branch Managers to come to a consensus regarding the decision. Provides support to Account Officers on Client calls as requested.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES

Conducts research to be current with economic trends, industry analysis, regulatory requirements, and business and trade publications which could impact the level of credit risk the Bank is willing to accept. Participates in assigned training. Recommends training for self-development. Takes a leadership role in the development of co-workers in and outside of the department. Discusses risk ratings and the rationale for the determination of acceptable credit with the Commercial Lenders or Branch Managers. Provides training to team members regarding the operation of the scoring model. Exhibits integrity, respect and professionalism when interacting with internal and external stakeholders.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION, & EXPERIENCE

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job requirement satisfactorily and a skills inventory is listed below. A Masters in Business Administration is required with ten or more years of commercial underwriting experience. A criminal background check will be conducted. LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, comprehend, and interpret complex documents. Possesses professional communication and interpersonal skills to write and speak directly and effectively both one-on-one and before groups of Clients or Employees of the organization.

TECHNOLOGY SKILLS: Ability to use telephone systems and possess strong computer skills including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, internet and intranet use. Prior experience in commercial loan underwriting and decisioning, model building, developing analysis and reporting required. Has a strong working knowledge and experience in Small Business Administration underwriting and documentation. Has the ability to learn core transaction systems and any other complex computer programs pertinent to performing job duties.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs and metrics reporting.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to solve challenging problems involving several variables in a standardized or fluid situation.

This position operates in a professional office environment with considerable time spent at a desk using office equipment such as computers, phones, and printers. Noise level is moderate with constant communication and interactions with others. Ability to travel on occasion to all market areas and attend seminars or training sessions offsite.
