Job Description:

In this position, the Public Safety Officer provides public assistance and patrols hospital
building(s) and grounds to provide a safe, secure environment for hospital staff, physicians,
patients and visitors so that they may provide or receive healthcare without threat of theft,
vandalism, disruptive behavior, illegal entry, or violation of Holy Rosary Healthcare rules,
regulations or policy. Assists with conducting associate and visitor accident investigations under
the direction of the supervisor. Additional responsibilities may include facilitating security and or
safety training for associates. Works varied assignments and shifts.

Job Summary

Conducts tours and inspects facilities and grounds frequently to assist in maintaining a safer and more secure environment.

Assists associates with security related matters.

Patrols interior to secure doors as needed, check emergency exits, and report safety hazards.

Confronts unwanted or unauthorized persons to determine lawful business, direct, detain, or ask to leave hospital property as needed.

Maintains knowledge of Environment of Care (EOC) and Emergency management (EM) plans and functions and assists these committees work to ensure safety and security to departments, buildings and campus.

Investigates critical incidents; assists employees, patients and visitors; interfaces with emergency response agencies; secures doors; monitors parking and traffic control.

Performs assigned security duties promptly and accurately.

Checks unoccupied areas.

Escorts patients, visitors and associates.

Assists clinical staff with patient room searches and in restraining and handling disruptive patients or visitors.

Presents a professional appearance and demeanor at all times.

Follows instructions and is aware of and follows safe work practices.

Assist with providing employee involvement/security awareness educational programs and workshops as directed.

Identify and assist with developing program issues impacting security operations.

Review reports and situations for potential negative impact.

Completes written reports for all Security calls for service, crimes and investigations, or unusual incidents that may pertain to hospital liability.

Assists with maintaining lost and found property process and policy and registry.

Assists with the key control system as the system administrator to keep access accurate and current.

Assess, monitor, and determine access with security and safety in mind.

Acts as a backup for Human Resources for making employee badges and updating (granting, changing or removing) access.

Monitors and ensures automatic door schedules are in place and functioning properly.
Responsible for monitoring and controlling access to Holy Rosary Healthcare by acting as a first point of entry for contractors, vendors, clergy, parish volunteers, and interpreters

Adheres to, maintains and supports the Joint Commission, other regulatory and legislative requirements for healthcare security operations for Holy Rosary Healthcare and all its components.

Service Relations
Leads with compassion and grace with all persons in which Security interacts with, exemplifies the Mission, Vision and Values of SCL Health and Holy Rosary Healthcare
Assists staff, physicians, patients and visitors in matters including but not limited to vehicle assistance and violent or disruptive behavior.
Is a primary contact for the patient care departments in the event of an incident of patient elopement or wandering
Must satisfactorily complete competencies as required by the System Director, Public Safety & Security during the conditional period.

Is able to demonstrate and successfully use all required competencies annually.
Assists with special projects as assigned.

Acts a role model and leader for other Public Safety & Security Officers.
Performs all functions according to established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements, as well as applicable professional standards.

Provides all customers of SCL Health with an excellent service experience by consistently demonstrating our core and leader behaviors each and every day

Minimum Qualifications

-High School Diploma or Equivalent

-Requirements are representative of the minimum level of knowledge, skills and/or abilities necessary to perform the essential functions of the position
-Valid MT Drivers License (or ability to obtain MT DL within 3 months of hire), proof of insurability and a clean driving record
-Current Unarmed Security Officers license or ability to obtain within six months of hire
-Current Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED certification or ability to obtain within three months of employment
-Current certifications for Taser-Carry, ASP tactical baton, handcuffs, or ability to obtain within 3 months of hire.
-Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
-Ability to successfully function in a fast paced, service oriented environment

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience.

$18.38 – $23.90
