Perform the more specialized mechanical and/or electrical build, test and repair work on experimental or prototype products, components, new locomotives and equipment where work duties follow established standards, specifications and instructions.

Key Job Elements:

• Interprets instrumentation requests, experimental test requests, and experimental test instructions;

• Defines and provides support for component, system and locomotive tests;

• Coordinates and supports multiple test initiatives;

• Knowledgeable of basic test instrumentation (multimeters, oscilloscopes, function generators, calibrators and power supplies);

• Knowledge of the measurement of mechanical and electrical parameters;

• Knowledge of analog and digital signal conditioning and filtering;

• Knowledge of digital data acquisition and reduction systems;

• Knowledge of transducer and instrumentation calibration and maintenance;

• Assures effectiveness of test and data collection systems;

• Designs and fabricates unique cable assemblies, instrument and mechanical fixturing solutions;

• Identifies and reviews software & hardware for test applications and support services;

• Domestic and International travel as required.

Qualifications and Experience:

Required:

• Good oral and written communications skills;

• High level of interpersonal and team skills;

• Experience with Microsoft Office, Power Point, & Project;

• Experience with test support in Engineering, Production and Customer environments;

• Able to adapt to a dynamic and variable work environment and customer base.

Preferred:

• Experience with Yokogawa, DEWESoft, & test cell data acquisition software & control packages;

• Experience with locomotive diesel engines, mechanical and electrical control systems;

• Experience with PLCs hardware and programing.

Essential and Physical Activities Functions

• Strength – Position typically involves work in an office environment with occasional visits to an industrial

environment. Frequent sitting. Occasional standing and walking. Occasional light to medium-level lifting (up to 30 pounds);

• Motion – Position regularly requires standard motions associated with working in an office environment;

• Vision/Hearing Requirements – Frequent verbal communications, including both talking and hearing;

• Work Environment – Position is typically located in an office environment with occasional visits to an industrial environment which may include a non-temperature-controlled environment, as well as exposure to noise (85 decibels), occasional exposure to temperature changes, heavy machinery and other hazardous working conditions requiring the use of PPE;

• Emotional Demands – Very high level of responsibility. Must be able to coordinate diverse aspects of a project. Requires significant interpersonal skills while sustaining very high standards;

• Safety – Position is safety sensitive, as it requires working in and around live tracks and operation and repair of heavy equipment. Position requires strict adherence to safety policies (i.e., blue flag) and use of all PPE.
