Job Summary:

In this role, you will perform activities related to Health, Safety, Environmental (HSE) compliance to support the site, location or business needs. Receives technical and strategic oversight and direction from HSE supervisor or manager for the site, location or business but also has enough experience to work unsupervised to accomplish goals and objectives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Assist in developing health and safety systems, programs and procedures to prevent occupational injuries and illnesses, and enhance the overall site safety culture resulting in management engagement, employee involvement and the reduction in unsafe conditions and behaviors.

Participate on incident investigations to guide on finding root causes and identifying aligned long-term corrective actions.

Perform facility audits, surveys and inspections to identify environmental, safety and occupational hazards and weaknesses, to promote effective practices and ensure compliance with applicable regulations and develop recommendations that provide solutions, remedies or process improvement.

Participates, review and approves risk assessments such as: to Job Safety Analysis (JSA), Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), ergonomic, Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), new chemicals, and equipment assessments.

Support all chemical and hazardous waste management, including transportation and documentation.

Educate employees on how to prevent health problems using safety training programs and communications.

Support on the monitoring of contractor activities to ensure compliance with West Safety Policies.

Participate on projects for new equipment or improvement as safety representative.

Other duties as assigned

Basic Qualifications:

BS Degree in Environment, Health, Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or science related field.

3 to 5 years of experience on the HSE field

Must have knowledge of local and country HSE related regulations

manufacturing industry experience, preferred

Higher level of spoken and written knowledge of the English language

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Possess strong ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with employees and managers at all levels of the organization

Ability to read, interpret and write documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

Demonstrated ability to train

Strong planning and organizational skills

Analytical problem solving

Able to track information and conduct audits

Ability to work irregular hours on occasion to support 24/7 operation

Ability to communicate with all levels of employees

Ability to give feedback and instructions to help others to reach excellence in doing their present or future tasks at work

Competent in the Microsoft Office Suite of products (Word, Outlook, Excel)

Travel Requirements:

Must be able to travel up to 5%: Up to 13 business days per year

Physical and Mental Requirements:

Sedentary – exerting up to 10lbs/4kgs of force occasionally, and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to life, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met
