[SC00] As a participant in the Co-op/Intern Professional Development Program, you will be cultivating professional skills and performing professional level work. You wont just be sitting in meetings and shadowing all summer; youll be actively contributing and doing the same work as other FirstEnergy employees on your team. Youll receive on-the-job training and challenging assignments. You will also be assigned a Supervisor, a Coach/Mentor and a dedicated IT Intern Program Coordinator to help you maximize your learning and growth throughout your summer… and beyond. Internships with FirstEnergy are full-time, paid opportunities spanning 14 weeks. You must be actively enrolled in an accredited university or college. About the IT Transmission Systems Analyst The IT Transmission Systems Analyst works at FirstEnergys Transmission Control Center with a team of analysts and engineers in support of the Energy Management System (EMS) and other related applications. The system is a critical, real-time, 7×24 application that monitors and controls the flow of power across the FirstEnergy transmission system and interconnections. Team members apply software, hardware, networking, and/or engineering principles to support FirstEnergys EMS environment. The work focuses on maintaining a system architecture that meets the end-user requirements, while maintaining compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements. An IT Transmission Systems Analyst has a passion for technology and enjoys the challenge of determining how systems work and troubleshooting issues. The IT Systems Analyst also learns the complex business processes of the systems they support. They have great communication skills allowing collaboration between IT and the business unit utilizing the application. This positions base reporting location can be Akron, OH or Fairmont, WV. The position can be worked primarily remotely with occasional (1-2 days/week) work on-site. Examples of possible job duties and responsibilities of an IT Systems Analyst: Understanding the business functions to provide optimal solutions that are scalable, reliable, and cost effective. Managing third-party vendor software on FirstEnergys standard infrastructure and network platforms. Managing the testing and deployment of patches and software upgrades. Supporting real-time SCADA software and database configurations Maintaining integrations and interfaces between FirstEnergy real-time systems Performing system security administration tasks Supporting GEs Historian and Source products and Oracle databases Supporting data extraction and transformation through the GE toolset and Perl scripts. Developing data queries and reporting solutions to meet customer requirements. Supporting enhanced visualization projects for FirstEnergys transmission control rooms Supporting GEs Control product running on the EMS Front End Processors (FEP) and associated communications hardware. Developing a solid understanding of processes in the FirstEnergy Transmission Operations line of business, keeping up with developments in the electric utility industry at large, and being able to speak the language of the business. Applicant Requirements: Currently enrolled, full time, in a bachelors degree program at an accredited university/college focusing on Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Computer Engineering or other technology related disciplines Class Standing – Rising Junior or Rising Senior Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 Must have the ability to work without sponsorship (now or in the future) Preferred Skills/Experience Basic understanding of, or experience with, any kind of coding or scripting languageTo view the full job description, click here
