The opportunity
Ernst & Young (EY) Technical Consulting works on complex and high-profile emerging technology engagements in support of the federal government. As a team, we assess client gaps and link them to solutions from emergent, disruptive technologies; identify and source technology solutions; develop strategies and roadmaps around emerging technology; set the stage for development, adoption, and commercialization; and develop and deploy novel solutions for our clients. You will join one of the fastest growing practices at EY and you will be afforded a range of opportunities for your professional growth and development.
In this role, you will provide technical and scientific consulting to the federal government in emerging and disruptive technology areas such as AI/ Machine Learning, autonomous systems, biotechnology, energy, space systems, physics, advanced materials, and health sciences. You will support the development of new research and development (R&D) programs, provide strategic recommendations on current programs, maintain client relationships, identify and foster technology transition opportunities, and support new business development. Having a mixed technical and commercial mind-set and excellent scientific communications skills are key to this role.
Your key responsibilities
Work as a strategic technical consultant to support the development of advanced R&D programs focused on emerging technology
Leverage deep technical knowledge to produce comprehensive solutions and recommendations, within the agreed quality, service commitment levels, schedules, and budgets
Provide assessments and recommendations on the scientific and practical merit of research project approaches, to include in-depth expert feedback
Develop and track metrics for program success; coordinate test and evaluation events and demonstrations
Identify technical and schedule risks and associate program impacts and present findings to key stakeholders
Provide technical insights and summarize findings on technology areas, including trends, forecasts, and associated policy issues
Produce and present findings and recommendations to clients on the feasibility and potential impact of future research programs, assisting with the management of current programs, and facilitating the transition of program deliverables to key stakeholders.

2 years of delivering high-quality work products for clients

Strong communication and problem-solving skills
Experience in a client-facing work environment
Experience assessing R&D project proposals for technical merit and/or approach feasibility
Experience working as a technical advisor supporting a federal government agency
Technical degree in relevant field (PhD preferred)
Ideally, you’ll also have
Must be able to work onsite in the greater Washington, DC metro area
Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Secret clearance
Due to the nature of our work in the Government and Public Sector, work may be required to be completed at client, EY and/or contractor sites. Our goal is to assign professionals to projects within a commutable distance of their work location office. In certain circumstances, travel may be required beyond your work location based on client and project needs. Candidates should be willing to travel 20 – 30% or more.

What we offer
We offer a comprehensive compensation and benefits package where you’ll be rewarded based on your performance and recognized for the value you bring to the business. The base salary range for this job in all geographic locations in the US is $101,500 to $186,000. The salary range for New York City Metro Area, Washington State and California (excluding Sacramento) is $121,700 to $211,300. Individual salaries within those ranges are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge, skills and geography. In addition, our Total Rewards package includes medical and dental coverage, pension and 401(k) plans, and a wide range of paid time off options. Join us in our team-led and leader-enabled hybrid model. Our expectation is for most people in external, client serving roles to work together in person 40-60% of the time over the course of an engagement, project or year. Under our flexible vacation policy, you’ll decide how much vacation time you need based on your own personal circumstances. You’ll also be granted time off for designated EY Paid Holidays, Winter/Summer breaks, Personal/Family Care, and other leaves of absence when needed to support your physical, financial, and emotional well-being.
