Responsibilities POSITION SUMMARY: The On-the-job Trainer will provide training and guidance to new hires, transfers and other employees within the plant as needed. S/he will assist with development of new training and review existing training. The On-the-job Trainer will support multiple departments across the West Jefferson location. This position always has the responsibility to comply with Safety work rules as well as an obligation to reinforce Safety as a Core Value. Ensures that all policies, procedures and activities, related to Food Safety & Quality, are followed and complied with uniformly, to reduce product and process variability. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide training and guidance for new hires, transfers and other employees within the plant as needed. This includes training and validation of training with respect to employee performance against established training objectives. Ensure the Safety and JHAs are completed for new hires and transfers. Work with employees to complete their Skills Assessment paperwork for position qualification. Make recommendation of additional skill requirements/development and cross-training as needed. Develop OJT training programs and participate on teams developing training plans and OJT programs. Assist in developing work instructions, checklists and visual aids. Assist with new employee orientation (as a back-up), Follow up on a regular, planned schedule, to answer questions and verify proficiency and understanding. Conduct cross training as needed. Support employees who have questions or need additional assistance in understanding their job responsibilities. Maintain files of training materials. Maintain organized log(s) of all training conducted. Perform all training in full compliance with all company, state and/or federal safety and environmental regulations. Notify designated personnel of any irregularities in materials, process or equipment. During non-training or non-production periods, the OJT may be called upon to perform in other capacities such as: working on problem solving, continuous improvement or safety programs/training; cross training; verifying procedures for accuracy; and assist in general housekeeping activities. Will be assisting production when needed. Periodic attendance of training seminars. (Some will require out of town or overnight arrangements.) Ability to work on any shift as needed to meet internal customer training needs. Assume personal responsibility to ensure safe and healthy workplace for everyone. Adhere to all safety policies and procedures and, incorporate safety and health in all jobs and tasks. Adhere to Quality work practices, follows GMP’s, maintain sanitary conditions and ensure that product quality is maintained. Report to management any conditions or practices that may adversely affect food safety and quality. Able to work overtime, holidays, and support alternate manufacturing shifts. Ensures regulatory compliance at all times. Perform other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION AND EXPEREINCE REQUIRED: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) or equivalent Proven ability to work with and teach employees with diverse backgrounds and learning methods/abilities. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations in English. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and in group situations. Ability to respond to questions from internal/external customers/vendors at all levels including management. Qualifications PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Bilingual (English/Spanish) desired. Knowledge and previous application of adult education and learning techniques. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, and diagram or schedule form. Knowledge of local, state and federal laws and regulations regarding compliance training requirements. Proficient in Microsoft Office including Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Word. Experience with SharePoint and Access a plus. Ability to recognize problem situations, investigate and take appropriate steps to resolve. Ability to work in cold, wet, noisy, dusty and humid environments. Demonstrates the ability to maintain positive interpersonal relationships and work effectively with others to complete work assignments. Able to work independently or with others in a team environment depending upon the assignment. Self-motivated while also willing to ask questions and seek direction. Displays responsible behavior at work. Open to change. Ability to obtain and maintain a forklift and pallet jack license.
