Position Overview:

The Financial Clearance Supervisor oversees the daily operations of the Financial Clearance team, ensuring all patients are screened for eligibility in social programs, such as Medicaid, Financial Assistance, or other healthcare funding alternatives, prior to scheduled services. This role supervises the Patient Access Concierge and Benefit Advocate teams, focusing on streamlining processes, optimizing revenue cycle performance, and maintaining high standards of patient satisfaction. The Financial Clearance Supervisor will collaborate with various hospital departments to resolve issues, develop best practices, and provide leadership to drive efficient and effective financial clearance processes.

Position Responsibilities:

Leadership and Supervision:

Supervise and provide guidance to the Financial Clearance team, including Patient Access Concierge and Benefit Advocate staff.

Monitor daily activities to ensure timely and accurate screening for social programs and financial clearance.

Conduct regular team meetings and training sessions to ensure staff are up-to-date on procedures and compliance requirements.

Develop and implement departmental goals and performance standards.

Financial Clearance Operations:

Oversee pre-service, point-of-service, and post-service financial clearance processes to identify and secure patient eligibility for social programs and alternative funding sources.

Ensure patients are informed about their options for Medicaid, Financial Assistance, and other healthcare funding alternatives.

Collaborate with patients and vendors to resolve complex financial issues and ensure patients are enrolled in the most beneficial programs.

Review accounts for accuracy and completeness, initiating charity care adjustments and write-offs when appropriate.

Process Improvement and Compliance:

Identify opportunities for process improvement and implement changes to enhance financial clearance efficiency and effectiveness.

Ensure compliance with all relevant policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements, including Medicare, Medicaid, and the Fair Patient Billing Act.

Monitor and analyze departmental performance metrics, reporting results to senior management.

Patient Advocacy and Communication:

Serve as a resource for patients and families, providing guidance on social program eligibility, financial assistance options, and other available resources.

Advocate for patient needs and well-being while ensuring hospital reimbursement.

Develop and maintain positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including clinical departments, insurance providers, and social service agencies.

Team Development:

Foster a positive and collaborative team environment focused on achieving departmental and organizational goals.

Provide ongoing feedback, coaching, and performance evaluations to team members.

Recruit, train, and mentor new team members to ensure high levels of competency and service excellence.

Requirements:

Education:

Minimum Required: High School Diploma or equivalent, with training acquired through work experience or education.

Preferred: Associates or Bachelors Degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, or related field.

Experience:

Minimum Required: 2-3 years of previous job-related experience in healthcare financial services, insurance verification, or patient access.

Preferred: 3-5 years of supervisory experience within a hospital or healthcare setting.

Knowledge and Skills:

Strong understanding of social programs (Medicaid, Financial Assistance) and healthcare funding alternatives.

Proficiency in medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and medical record coding (ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS) is preferred.

Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint); experience with EPIC or other electronic health records (EHR) systems is preferred.
