Summary This position is located at Ft. Drum Child and Youth School Services. This announcement may be used to fill additional vacancies throughout the program. Responsibilities Serves as a CYS Food and Nutrition Specialist with responsibility for the oversight and operation of the food program in Child Development Centers, Family Child Care Homes, School-Age Programs, and Middle School and Teen Programs at Level 3 and above Acts as Subject Matter Expert in nutritional needs of children from birth – 18 years of age. Conducts written observations/inspections in all CYS facilities, sites and homes (regardless of sponsorship) to meet USDA enrollment and Army requirements. Recruits and hires qualified Food Service Operation personnel utilizing Army CYS Standard Position Descriptions. Prepares separate healthy, balanced 4 – 6 week seasonal cycle menus for Child Development, SAS, and MST programs IAW USDA CACFP and Army policies i.e., portion sizes, meal patterns, and “seconds” requirements. Other duties as assigned. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Successful completion of a four (4) year college or university degree with a major course of study/substantial course work in dietetics, food nutrition, food service management, institutional management, or related science. In addition, candidate must possess: 1. At least twelve (12) months demonstrated work experience directly related to food operation, preferably with children and youth, equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade level. 2. Demonstrated program administration experience. 3. The ability to plan and organize work, analyze problems to identify significant factors, gather pertinent data and recognize solutions.4. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing in English. Education Proof of education is required at the time of application, if applicable. PCS Costs Payment Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs are authorized, based on a determination that a PCS move is in the Governments interest. Pay-Band Allowances and Differentials This is a NF pay-banded position. Sunday premium pay may be authorized by the Garrison Commander. If authorized, only regular (full-time, part-time, limited tenure and seasonal) employees may be paid Sunday premium pay. When authorized, Sunday premium will be paid at the rate of 25% of the basic rate for all hours of non-overtime, when any part of the scheduled tour of duty is performed on Sunday (to a maximum of 8 hours per Sunday). Night differential may be authorized by the Garrison Commander. When authorized, night differential will be paid at the rate of 10% basic rate for hours of non-overtime work performed between 1800-0600. Incentives and Bonuses The Fort Drum CYS Division now offers a childcare discount for CYS employees; 50% discount for first child and 15% for each child after. As an added employee incentive, the Department of Defense (DoD) granted approval to extend temporary limited commissary privileges (excluding the purchase of tobacco or alcohol products) to CYS employees.
