Job Title: Inbound Freight Assistant Department Manager

Department: Inbound Freight

FLSA: Non-Exempt

General Function:

Assist and supports Inbound Freight operations and supervises employees.

Accountable and Reports to: Director of Inbound Freight

Positions that Report to you: Inbound Freight Coordinators

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Promotes, trains, and supports department workflow to be completed in a timely and cost-efficient manner.

Plans vacations, holidays, and on-call schedule coverage for the department.

Maintains lines of communication with transportation, purchasing, distribution, and suppliers.

Assists in department coverage during vacations and absences.

Rotates on-call.

SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Receives purchase orders and utilizes that information to find carriers to haul loads. Negotiates of freight rates and pick-up and delivery time.

Contacts transportation providers for pricing negotiation and on-time delivery.

Checks invoices/receiving documents and authorizes payment and/or adjustments.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Worker Characteristics:

Must have the ability to solve practical problems; variety of variables with limited standardization; logical thinking to solve problems; interpret instructions.

Must have the ability to do arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages.

Must be comfortable working on a computer and possess experience working in an office environment

Education and Experience:

High school diploma or GED required. A Bachelor’s degree in supply chain and logistics as well as supervisory experience is a plus.

Supervisory Responsibilities (Direct Reports):

Manages the performance of Inbound Freight Coordinators

Provides coaching to Inbound Freight Coordinators and administers disciplinary action

Physical Requirements:

Must be physically able to perform sedentary work: exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.

Must be able to type.

Working Conditions:

The duties of the position are performed in an office setting.

Equipment Used to Perform Job:

PC with OMI, Manhattan TLM, Retalix Yard and Dock Scheduling, Kronos, Workday, Microsoft office suite of products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

Financial Responsibility

Monitors reports, checking for errors that would cause incorrect product pricing or incorrect freight payment. Makes recommendations for freight pricing.
