JOB REQUIREMENTS: Job Summary The Red Wing Police Department is now
accepting applications for a full-time Community Service Officer! This
Community Service Officer (CSO) is a uniformed, non-sworn position that
is responsible for coordinating Community Outreach/Crime Prevention
programs, performs animal control duties, parking enforcement and other
police department activities. Crime Prevention/Community Outreach:
Coordinate Crime-Free Multi-Housing project; coordinate training to
educate tenants and landlords regarding safety of rental housing.
Coordinate Neighborhood Watch program; conduct neighborhood meetings to
educate people about the program; maintain records related to program.
Coordinate, promote and organize upcoming Citizens Academy through local
media, social media flyers, and presentations. Coordinate, promote and
organize Night to Unite (NTU) activities through local media social
media flyers and presentations. Performs Crime Prevention Through
Environmental Design (CPTED) Surveys. This may include training and
maintaining crime prevention certification. Conduct safety programs at
schools, daycares, and other facilities as requested; conduct bicycle
safety, Halloween safety, and similar programs; order and maintain
supplies for the programs. Coordinate various community events and gives
presentations related to public safety. May distribute fingerprint kits
and perform fingerprinting of children, etc. May obtain national
certification as Child Passenger Safety Technician and educate parents
on proper installation and safety measures in regards to child passenger
safety. Enforcement: Maintain and monitor the Trespass List and assists
the public in completing and serving notices in accordance with State
Statute. Document, investigate, and enforce nuisance property
violations. Perform animal control duties. Investigate and document
dangerous dogs. Post roadways with appropriate signage for community
events. Parking enforcement May provide limited support services to the
Patrol Services Division. May assist sworn Patrol Officers with
ride-along and transport duty. Perform related duties as assigned.
Evidence Room: Perform Evidence Technician duties; coordinate all
property received into the Evidence Room. Maintain the vehicle secure
storage lot, cold storage facility, evidence preparation room, evidence
garage, and evidence storage facility. Receive property, log it into
property logs, and assign property numbers. Maintain computerized logs
of all cash, firearms, vehicles, and bicycles. Ship/transport evidence
for analysis by the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension. Maintain proper
chain of custody of all property by ensuring proper sign outs, etc.
Order and stock all evidence-related supplies. Return property to
owners, designate for auction or agency use, or commit to destruction as
appropriate according to department policy and state statutes. Respond
to requests from public, investigators, officers, and attorneys for
review of evidence. Maintain prescription drug take back program. This
includes duties of emptying the prescription drug box, package the
contents, weigh and coordinate the destruction of the drug box contents.
OTHER EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS: Experience Required:
