Job Summary

The Jumpstart Site Manager will coordinate the oversight of the local Jumpstart early literacy program, which works with pre-k classrooms around Hattiesburg serving children from low-income families. Jumpstart provides language, literacy, and social-emotional programming for preschool children from under-resourced communities and promotes quality early learning for all children. Jumpstart recruits and trains college students and community AmeriCorps members to provide these services.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Receives 30 hours of training from The University of Mississippi’s Jumpstart staff

Assumes recruiting and training responsibilities for USM Jumpstart staff

Places teams of students in partnering Hattiesburg Public School District’s pre-K classrooms

Provides supervision of Jumpstart staff and services

Engages in ongoing recruitment and training efforts

Completes all required documentation and reporting activities, in accordance with The University of Mississippi’s Jumpstart requirements

Minimum Qualifications

Progression toward a bachelor’s degree in child and family sciences, early childhood education, education, or a closely related field from an accredited college or university or associate’s degree plus one year of related work experience. Other degrees may be considered with additional related work experience.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of early childhood programming and developmentally appropriate practice.

Skill in managing one’s own time and the time of others.

Ability to engage communicate and interact effectively with a diverse group of people.

Ability to engage, recruit, and train students.

Preferred Qualifications

Graduate coursework completed toward degree in child and family sciences, early childhood education, education, or a closely related field. Documented record of supervisory responsibilities.
