Job Summary
The Facilities Technician III position is critical to the overall success of the University Housing mission. UWM University Housing’s mission is to enhance community members’ cultural understanding, leadership skills, academic success, social connections, and social responsibility by creating safe, comfortable, and well-maintained living-learning environments that inspire growth and development for over 4,300 residents and 5,000 guests per year.
This position will work for the Facilities Unit for University Housing. This unit oversees the upkeep of 1.2 million square feet of residential and retail space. The areas are comprised of Maintenance (which takes mechanical infrastructure, electronics, paint, and elevators) and Custodial which keeps our buildings clean and in tip-top condition. The unit also facilitates our capital improvements and long-term project planning.
The Facilities Technician III inspects, maintains, and repairs specialized equipment and facilities to ensure property meets established standards and to prevent further damage. They assist with construction, design, and operational maintenance.
Responsibilities
Utilizes specialized equipment to repair and maintain complex machinery, equipment, and facility property to prevent further damage and ensure optimal operation
Performs routine and non-routine facility inspections and monitors cleanliness
Troubleshoots, escalates, and documents issues according to established policies and procedures including responding to work orders via TMA and updating the system
Receives, inspects, inventories, and distributes deliveries independently to appropriate entities
Assists trades, crafts, vendors, and technical staff with construction, design, and operational maintenance
This position’s primary schedule is first shift, Monday through Friday with rotating on-call hours and occasional nights and weekends as determined by department needs.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or completion of equivalent educational program ( GED , etc)
Previous work experience in a facilities maintenance setting or evidence of basic maintenance knowledge including but not limited to inspection, upkeep, routine troubleshooting and repair of small engines and/or a building’s mechanical, electrical, HVAC , plumbing systems
Ability to lift 60 pounds unassisted; ability to use ladders and aerial lifts up to 60 feet while wearing fall protection; sufficient vision to read directions and diagrams, and to adjust equipment; sufficient physical dexterity to work on, under, and around equipment; ability to bend, reach, and kneel and stand for long periods
Wisconsin Driver’s license (or other such valid operator’s permit recognized by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation) and be able to meet or exceed the minimum requirements for driving on state business as detailed here: https://uwm.edu/risk-management/drivers/
Ability to work a flexible schedule that may require occasional nights and/or weekends as determined by operational need and a rotating on-call schedule
Preferred Qualifications
2 or more years of facilities maintenance experience
A degree or technical certification specific to trades
Previous experience or abilities demonstrated in the following areas: Previous experience or abilities demonstrated in the following areas:
o Plumbing
o Electrical
o Carpentry
o HVAC
o Small engine repair
o Landscaping and/or snow removal
Previous experience in a position requiring on-call hours
Previous experience in a 365/24/7 operation of similar size and scope, performing maintenance responsibilities
Target Salary Range $23.00/hour
