Job Title: Perioperative Nurse
Department: Operating Room
Position Summary
The Perioperative Nurse effectively delivers perioperative care to the surgical patient through the nursing process of assessment, planning, intervention, implementation and evaluation. Demonstrates commitment to Clarion Hospital mission statement, vision statement and values.
Essential Functions
Adheres to hospital and department policies/procedures.

Patient care coordinator.
Uses the nursing process.
Assesses the patient
Plans patient care.
Documents patient care
Collaborates with other members of the health care team.
Instructs patient and family.
Participates in performance improvement activities
Provides patient care.
Implements patient care.
Administers medications.
Administers treatments.
Functions as a clinical preceptor.
Performs scrub and circulating duties.
Care of environment and equipment.
Maintains unit.
Maintains equipment.
Requires a mechanical ability to deal with a large number of machines and special equipment in the department, including (but not limited to):
Electrocautery units Autoclaves
Touriquets Positioning equipment
Instruction of each service Perioperative suite in total
Energy Devices Video Towers
Information processing and documentation.
Communicates patient information.
Documents information.
Charges for equipment and supplies.
Uses computer system efficiently.
Where appropriate, must be able to assess treatment and care for specific patient populations (i.e.: neonatal, pediatrics, adolescents, geriatrics). Should possess the ability to understand and react effectively to their unique needs.
Maintains adherence to patient rights.
Participates in nursing and hospital committees as appropriate.
Attends at least 70% of department staff meetings.
Agrees to comply with the Corporate Compliance Policy and all laws, rules, regulations, and standards of conduct relating to the position and has a duty to
report any suspected violations of the law or the standards of conduct to his or her immediate supervisor, the Compliance Officer or the Chief Executive Officer.

Supervises: Surgical Technologists
Qualifications
Graduate of a State Board approved program of professional nursing. Holds a current Pennsylvania State License as a registered nurse. Certified in BLS, ACLS and PALS in the future.
