Responsibilities:

Check schedules and organize patient flow, accompanying patients to exam and procedure rooms while assisting with walking, transfers, and dressing.

Collect patient information and history, taking vitals and performing screenings per provider guidelines, while relaying instructions to patients and families.

Send and receive patient medical records in compliance with HIPAA and other regulations, ensuring confidentiality and security of data.

Prepare patient rooms and set up instruments and equipment according to department protocols, maintaining infection control through cleaning between visits.

Manage inventory of supplies, restocking exam and procedure rooms, and keeping records of cleaning schedules and maintenance.

Perform phlebotomy, EKGs, and level one labs; assist physicians with procedures and document patient information accurately in medical records.

Answer calls, provide pertinent information, and educate patients as directed, while verifying insurance coverage and scheduling appointments.

Under physician supervision, administer injectable medications and vaccines, ensuring compliance with regulatory agency requirements and UPMC policies.

Required:

High school diploma or equivalent

Must have basic computer skills and knowledge of medical terminology, examination, diagnostic and treatment room responsibilities

Preferred:

Medical Assistant experience

Wound care/post op care experience

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire

Act 31 Mandated Reporter Training within 90 days of hire or transfer

Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal

Act 33 with renewal

Act 34 with renewal

Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
