Job Summary

Provides the necessary functions to bill, collect, analyze, and adjudicate all hospital and professional billing and collection functions within the system. This position executes and performs programs to ensure efficient operations in order to generate sufficient cash flow to support operations and strategic initiatives. Responsibilities include cash application for all third party insurance payers, application of all patient payments, adjudicating, identifying, analyzing, reducing, and resolving various revenue enhancements and credit balance issues associated with hospital and professional accounts receivable and monthly cash flow. These responsibilities include processing of all cash payments, adjustments, and denials prior to the month-end close and adjudication of all unidentified accounts within the applicable systems. Is responsible for reconciliation and balancing functions for all manual, electronic, and bank deposit payers on a daily basis.

Job Duties

Performs all hospital and professional cash application functions within revenue management.

Performs all hospital and professional balancing activities and ensures that all payments received, either electronically or manually, equals the overall bank deposits as reported.

Performs the above-mentioned activities of the revenue cycle to ensure cost effectiveness and organizational efficiency.

This position executes these functions within the structure and in regards to how their function inter-relates to the other revenue management functions within other departments and various third party payers.

Works in conjunction with other areas in revenue management and Geisinger to ensure coordinated activities with respect to all revenue management needs.

Develops, implements, and directs various quality initiatives to insure continuous monitoring and improvements within the revenue cycle process of Geisinger.

This includes performing overall departmental operating functions within pre-determined limits and within Freedom-To-Act guidelines to insure operational efficiencies and obtaining pre-determined performance targets.

Facilitates various technological initiatives in support of business process improvements with respect to all revenue cycle functions and the various service lines.

Participates in a minimum of eighty hours of classroom training per year.

Assists with the establishment of a training school and provide job specific training for all revenue cycle employees in regards to specific functions, communicate ongoing improvements relative to process improvement and service line development.

Assists with the reduction of AR utilizing the review of rejections for missing modifiers, enrollment issues, and new rejections codes.

Reviews and researches account to ensure AR resolution.

Responsible for the preparation of training manuals and procedures.

Prepares documents for scanning to ensure that remittances are available for reference for the entire Revenue Management staff.

Position Details

Cash Posting experience with a health system preferred.

The initial training will require travel to the Buckhorn Office Building, Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania for the first 2-4 weeks. There might also be a requirement to attend in person department meetings quarterly.
