Maintenance Technician
Aerotek
Job Title: Maintenance Technician
Job Description
Candidate will be working as a maintenance technician at the Spiratex plant in Romulus, MI. The role will require both mechanical and electrical maintenance, with a primary focus on mechanical repairs. The plant contains all plastic extrusion equipment, including conveyors, heaters, valves, hydraulics, pneumatics, pullers, coilers, and vacuums. Candidate will be responsible for responding to downed machines, diagnosing the reason the machine is down, troubleshooting how to fix it, and actually fixing the equipment. The maintenance team is small and works together to keep all of the equipment up and running. At times, they will also conduct light facility maintenance to ensure the plant itself is running smoothly. This could include tasks like changing light bulbs in the office or unclogging toilets. Candidates must be open to helping in small ways as well. Long-term, the team will begin to implement more formalized preventative maintenance programs on the machines, which will be conducted on a regular schedule.
Candidates will also work directly with the fab department if there are parts that need to be replaced. They may have to weld or use a CNC machine to fabricate new parts.

Job Type

Work Site
This is a fully on-site position in Monroe, Michigan.
Work Environment
Candidate will be training on 1st shift M-F, 8 AM – 4:30 PM, and will move to 2nd shift after the training period. There are occasional Saturdays when work is busy. At times, if there is a shortage on a shift, candidates will need to be willing to come in early or stay late to help cover work. This is a smaller shop, well-lit, and moderately affected by the heat of summer and the cold of winter. There are only extrusion machines and raw materials (pellets of plastic) stored in the facility. No smells or sound disruptions for candidates. Safety glasses are required. The culture is slower-paced and less demanding, making it a welcome change for an individual looking to leave the taxing style of automotive suppliers. The union mindset of only certain tasks falling under ones purview would not fit this role.
