POSITION FUNCTION/OBJECTIVE

The System Engineer-Transmission is responsible for performing and assisting in the design and engineering activities on Cooperative distribution, transmission, and generation interconnect systems. This position requires demonstration of technical knowledge, sound engineering judgment, and skill, which will ensure the electrical system and engineering processes meet requirements and is rendering safe, efficient, dependable, and economical service to members, contributing to the attainment of the basic objectives of the Cooperative.

 

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Engages in and conducts studies, designs, engineering, specifications, documentation, and recommendations for all facilities within the Cooperatives transmission and distribution systems ensuring the safe, reliable, and accurate measurement and delivery of electricity.

Participates in and performs design, engineering, specification, and provides recommendations for all generation facilities of the Cooperative or those generation facilities that the Cooperative provides interconnect to. Participates in studies for all generation facilities.

Will be actively engaged in development and maintenance of the Cooperatives engineering and design standards. Maintain familiarity of new industry materials and equipment. Maintain familiarity with RUS specifications, regulations, list of materials, National Electric Safety Code, and other regulations affecting the design and operation of the electrical system. Specify and provide recommendations for equipment and material.

Contributes to the development of the Cooperatives policies and procedures and provides recommendations for necessary updates to ensure they remain current and relevant.

Work closely with all Engineering Department employees, other department employees, manufacturers, partners, and vendors to facilitate engineering, construction, and maintenance activities tasked by the Cooperative including development of specifications, evaluation of quotations or proposals for the purchase of equipment, materials, and services, further providing formal recommendation to committee, manager(s), or department head.

Responsible for project management of Cooperative system improvements for transmission and distribution lines or station facilities to include analyzing, reporting, planning, scheduling, construction, training, and project close-out.

Responsible for project management of Cooperative “Special Projects” to include analyzing, reporting, planning, scheduling, construction, training, and project close-out.

Recommend, specify, and coordinate with employees, consulting engineers, firms, partner companies, construction contractors, etc. for the development, implementation, and execution of construction work plans.

Participate in investigations and relative impacts to Cooperative infrastructure/systems from bulletins, advisories, alerts/notices, action items, etc. of electrical regulating entities or associates/contractors (NERC, FERC, MISO, R-First, etc.), including working with partner companies, or contractors of the Cooperative to develop formal notification or action to the related item. Develop and provide formal response or reporting required to the regulating entity.

Responsible for storage and updating engineering documentation and drawings related to Cooperative facilities per standard, consistent with Cooperative policy, or practice.

Attend as required and contribute to committees and other meetings to further develop the safe, effective, and economic operation of the Cooperative.
